Webster hails sale ‘an overwhelming success’

Auction finishes with an impressive aggregate of $8,438,000

At the close of trade on Thursday, Inglis reported that 190 lots sold for an aggregate of $8,438,000 at an average of $44,411, while the clearance rate finished at 86 per cent and the median as recorded as $24,000.

Comparisons with last year are difficult as it was held as an online sale due to the coronavirus pandemic, while in 2019 it was a significantly bigger catalogue of weanlings.

“Again, we are reluctant to do too much comparing to last year and are using 2019 as a fairer guide, and for the gross to be up more than 30 per cent and average up more than 20 per cent - while still clearing in the high 80s – is quite spectacular,’’ Inglis’ managing director Mark Webster said.

“To see Capitalist and Justify at the top of the stallion list for the sale and the likes of Hellbent and Harry Angel and Written By, all younger sires, performing so well in the ring, this industry is in such healthy shape not only now but moving forward as well.

“The weanlings continued a strong week of action at Riverside and now we move onto the Chairman’s Sale which, as everybody knows, is the highlight of the week in terms of world-class quality on offer.’’

In terms of stallions, Capitalist finished the day as the leading sire by aggregate selling ten youngsters for an aggregate of $1,475,000 at an average of $147,500, while the leading sire by average (with three or more lots sold) was Justify, who had four lots sell for an average of $218,750 at an aggregate of  $875,000.

Fairhill Farm finished the sale as the leading vendor by aggregate, selling all 29 of their offerings for a gross of $2,209,000 at an average of $76,172, while Middlebrook Valley Lodge were crowned the leading vendors by average (with three or more lots sold), selling six weanlings for an aggregate of $533,000, finishing the day with an average of $88,833.

Binalong Bloodstock finished the day as the leading buyers outlying $935,000 for six lots, while Silverdale Farm and Suman Hedge finished second, purchasing four youngsters for total receipts of $644,000.
