Front Run The Fed, who was offered as Lot 647, a stakes winning son of Fed Biz (Giant's Causeway), topped the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Horses of Racing Age Sale in Lexington on Monday sold for US$440,000 to George Sharp. 

ELITE, agent consigned the five-year-old son of Fed Biz, who is a multiple graded stakes placed stakes winner with earnings of US$392,150 to date. Front Run the Fed's current record stands at four wins and six placings in 13 career starts, including a win in the Better Talk Now Stakes (8f) at three and placings in the 2020 Runhappy Turf Sprint Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) and 2021 Poker Stakes (Gr 3, 8f) behind Grade 1 winners Oleksandra (Animal Kingdom) and Raging Bull (Dark Angel).

The Paramount Sales consigned Stilleto Boy (Shackleford) was the second most expensive lot at Monday's sale when bought by Steve Moger for US$425,000. 

The three-year-old has now won twice, including the Iowa Derby (Listed, 8.5f), and earnt almost US$250,000. The son of Shackleford (Forestry) is one of nine winners and two stakes winners out of the three-time winning mare Rosie's Ransom (Marquentry). 

The top priced filly was Josie (Race Day), who was offered as Lot 501 and got the sale off to a spectacular start when sold for US$300,000 to KatieRich Farms as the first horse through the ring. 

In total, 79 horses of racing age sold for US$5,905,500, up 16.4 per cent from when 81 horses sold for US$5,072,000 last year. The average rose 19.4 per cent to US$74,753 from US$62,617 in 2020, while the median rose 66.7 per cent to US$50,000 from US$30,000 last year. Fifteen horses sold for US$100,000 or more, compared to 11 in 2020. The RNA rate fell to 24.8 per cent.

"I don't think there were any surprises today," Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning said of the July Selected Horses of Racing Age sale. "It was a very active market with very competitive bidding throughout the day. [It had a] really vibrant feel to it."
