The first lot through the ring, a colt from the final crop of the late Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) sold for Y300,000,000 (approximately A$3.6 million) on Monday during the yearling session of the 2021 JRHA Select Sale.

The colt, who was offered by Northern Farm, was bought by Hasegawa Yuji and was catalogued as Lot 1. He is the second foal out of dual US Grade Two winner Go Maggie Go (Ghostzapper) who is a half-sister to fellow Grade Two winner Wallyanna (Langfuhr).

Go Maggie Go was a US$750,000 purchase by Katsumi Yoshida at the 2016 Fasig-Tipton The November Sale.

Later on during the session, the second lot to make Y300,000,000 was a son of Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha) who was bought by Fujita Susumu. Also offered by Northern Farm and catalogued as Lot 100, the colt is the second foal out of Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Spring (Gr 1, 7f) winner Finest City (City Zip).

Like Go Maggie Go, Finest City was bought by Katsumi Yoshida for US$1.5 million at The November Sale a year after he bought Go Maggie Go.

Another lot to sell well was the first foal out of Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain). By Heart’s Cry (Sunday Silence), the colt was bought for Y165,000,000 (approximately A$2 million) by Danox Company Ltd when offered by Northern Farm.

Colts by Coolmore Australia shuttlers Justify (Scat Daddy) and Saxon Warrior (Deep Impact) sold for Y200,000,000 (A$2.4 million) and Y190,000,000 (A$2.3 million) respectively.

Yoshida finished the day as the leading vendor.

“From the beginning of the sale at 10am to the conclusion at 7:30pm the market was very strong all the way through,” he said.

"I would like to thank all consignors for offering yearlings with the highest quality. I'm very impressed to see 16 different stallions being represented by a yearling selling for more than Y100 million.

"While we lost two big names, Deep Impact and King Kamehameha, two years ago, we have the depth of excellent stallions now and I'm glad to see so many new players active at today’s market."

Overall on Monday 226 of the 242 yearlings offered were sold (93%) for Y11,638,000,000. The average finished at Y51,495,575, up 13 per cent from last year and the median was Y35,000,000, an increase of 13 per cent from a year ago.

The sale concludes on Tuesday with the foal session.
