When the 2021 Fasig-Tipton The Saratoga Sale concluded on Tuesday evening four lots had been sold for seven figures, while the average and median showed increases on the 2019 figures, with no sale conducted in 2020 due to the Covid-10 pandemic.

After the Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) colt out of Grade One winner Dame Dorothy (Bernardini) made US$1.6 million on Monday evening, three further lots sold for seven figures on Tuesday.

In addition to the sale topping Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday) colt, Oxo Equine went to US$1.4 million for the Bolt d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) half-brother to multiple Grade One winner Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro) and Kindred Stables paid US$1 million for the Quality Road (Elusive Quality) filly out of Grade Three winning mare Above Perfection (In Excess).

Overall this year, 135 lots sold for US$55,155,000 with the clearance rate sitting at 75 per cent. The aggregate was comparable to the 2019 renewal when 135 lots sold for US$55,547,000.

The average of US$408,556 was down slightly (0.7 per cent) from US$411,549 recorded in 2019 and the median of US$350,000 was the same as two years ago.

"Fantastic, vibrant, energetic, dramatic, I think were all applicable tonight," said Fasig-Tipton's president and CEO Boyd Browning.

"I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it all begins with the quality of the horses on the sales grounds. We were lucky to have an exceptional group of horses on the grounds this week.

"All in all, it was a near-record sale in every statistical evaluation. To accomplish that coming off of disruption in 2020, I think is frankly remarkable."

Gainesway Farm's Tapit (Pulpit) finished the sale as the leading sire by average (three or more sold) with four of the five lots offered by him sold for US$2,840,000, at an average of US$710,000. MV Magnier was the leading buyer and Gainesway was the leading vendor having sold 12 lots for US$7,105,000 at an average of US$592,083.
