Exceed And Excel filly tops September Yearling Sale

Bought by Rabbah Bloodstock on day two of the relocated Tattersalls Ireland sale

A filly by Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel (Danehill) topped the second and final day of the relocated Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale on Wednesday when bought by Rabbah Bloodstock for £200,000. Relocated to Park Paddocks in Newmarket, the filly was the most expensive lot sold over the two day sale and was one of six lots to make over £100,000. 

Offered by Castlehyde Stud as Lot 451, the filly is a half-sister to this seasons Group Three winning filly Zain Claudette (No Nay Never) who added the Lowther Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at York to her resume last month. 

Two further lots sold for six figures on Wednesday; a colt by Smooth Daddy (Scat Daddy) who was bought by Johnston Racing for 120,000gns and a son of Mehmas (Acclamation) who made £105,000 when bought by JS Bloodstock and George Scott Racing. 

Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) finished the sale as the leading sire with 16 lots selling for £665,000 at an average of £41,563. The most expensive of those was a filly out of the winning Averti (Warning) mare Divert who was bought by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock for £85,000. 

Exceed And Excel meanwhile finished the sale as the leading sire by average (three or more lots sold) with his six yearlings selling at an average of £52,750. Tally-Ho Stud was the leading vendor selling 19 lots for £752,000 and Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock headed the buyers table having spent £834,000 on 16 yearlings. 

Wednesday's second session saw 177 yearlings sell for £5,083,500 at an average of £28,720 and median of £22,000. 

Over the two days 333 yearlings sold for €8,009,140. With 14 per cent fewer horses sold this year compared to last, the aggregate was down 15 per cent. The average of €24,051 was on par with that of €24,267 recorded d year ago while the median fell 12 per cent from €20,000 to €17,582.
