A colt by Darley's Exceed and Excel (Danehill) was the most expensive lot sold during Saturday evening's final session of Book 1 of the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when he was bought for $1.2 million by James Harron Bloodstock.

The colt was one of four lots to make seven figures during Saturday's session and when the Book 1 sale concluded 777 lots, the same number as in 2021, had sold for $228,807,500. This figure was up 16 per cent from $197,240,000 recorded last year. The average was also up 16 per cent from $253,848 last year to $294,476. The median rose 28 per cent from $180,000 to $230,000. The clearance rate finished at an impressive 93 per cent. A total of 19 yearlings sold for $1 million or more.

Ciaron Maher Bloodstock finished the sale as the leading buyer having spent $13,335,000 on 35 lots while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and Kestrel Thoroughbreds bought 27 yearlings for $10,995,000.

Newgate Farm finished as leading vendor having sold 45 yearlings for $18,810,000 becoming the highest grossing vendor ever. Arrowfield meanwhile sold 50 lots for $15,340,000. By average, Silverdale Farm finished as the leading vendor having sold six yearlings at an average of $612,500.

The final crop of pensioned sire Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) was the leading stallion by average with ten lots selling at an average of $623,000 ahead of I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) who had 39 yearlings sell at an average of $563,462.

"It's a dream result for us," Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said. "The team have put so much time and effort into this sale.

"It hasn't been an easy one to get organised for – but to get here and to have our buyers back here on the Gold Coast, enjoying the Gold Coast and buying a lot of lovely horses is great.

"To be able to facilitate the sales for the vendors who have supported the sale like never before, is something we're extremely proud of."

"Obviously it's a record sale whichever way you look at it and it's something to be proud of – being able to bring it all together.

"We move now to the Book 2 catalogue of yearlings and we have some great quality yearlings to go under the hammer on Sunday afternoon and Monday.

"The Book 2 sale has a proud history of producing quality horses who have won at the elite level all around Australia and abroad," Bowditch added.
