Multiple top-flight winner Arrogate (Unbridled’s Song) has died, Juddmonte Farms confirmed on Tuesday.

Purchased by Juddmonte for US$560,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and sent into training with Bob Baffert, Arrogate was beaten on debut at Los Alamitos, but broke his maiden on his second start, thus kicking off a winning thread of seven victories.

The septet included four at elite-level; Travers Stakes (Gr 1, 10f) - which he landed in track record time, while he was also victorious Breeders' Cup Classic (Gr 1, 10f), Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (Gr 1, 9f) and Dubai World Cup (Gr 1, 2000m).

Arrogate was retired to stand at Juddmonte Farms’ Kentucky base, a winner of seven of his 11 starts, which saw him accumulate US$17,418,514 in career prize-money.

“This is very hard on everyone at Juddmonte, most especially on Steve Dotsey, Stallion Manager and Jorge Chavarria who cared for Arrogate daily and who had such a great rapport with him,” Douglas Erskine Crum, CEO Juddmonte Group said.

“It was a bold decision to ask Bob Baffert to purchase and train top dirt horses for Prince Khalid and, assisted by Donato Lanni, the selection of Arrogate was one of the success stories of the decade on the racetrack. Arrogate has bred three crops at stud, has his first yearlings to present to the sales this year and his physical and personality traits are passing very strongly to his offspring.”

Meanwhile, Garrett O’Rourke, general manager of Juddmonte USA said: “We will never forget the ride Arrogate took us on. Those four amazing races established him as one of the great racehorses of our time, breaking 2 track records, taking down champion California Chrome in a battle for the ages and then running by Gun Runner in another worldly performance in Dubai.

“We hope that the heartbreak of losing him so young can be soothed by proudly watching the achievement of his runners.”

Arrogate is out Listed winner Bubbler (Distorted Humor), making him a half-brother to fellow Listed winner Osare (Medaglia d’Oro). Further back this is the Grade 1 winners Meadow Star (Meadowlake) and Belle Gallantey (After Market).

Arrogate stood the 2020 season for a fee of US$50,000.
