The John Shirreffs-trained Honor A P (3 c ex Hollywood Story by Wild Rush) won Saturday's Santa Anita Derby (Gr 1, 9f) and in doing so provided his sire, the Lane's End-based Honor Code (A P Indy), with his first Grade 1 winner and second stakes winner.

Ridden by Mike Smith, Honor A P scored a two and three quarter length victory over the Bob Baffert-trained Authentic (Into Mischief) with another length and a quarter back to Rushie (Liam's Map) in third place.

Bought for US$850,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale by CRK Stable, Honor A P is out of the dual Grade 1 winner Hollywood Story (Wild Rush) making him a half-brother to six other winners including dual Listed winner Miss Hollywood (Malibu Moon) and the Grade 2 placed colt Hollywood Star (Mailbu Moon).

A dual Grade 1 winner, Honor Code has two crops of racing age and is also the sire of the Grade 3 winner Max Player. The son of A P Indy (Seattle Slew) won the Whitney Stakes (Gr 1, 9f) and Metropolitan Handicap (Gr 1, 8f) as a four-year-old and he stood for a fee of US$30,000 this year.
