Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes goes to Counterparty Risk
The Irish-bred Counterparty Risk (3 f ex Anklet by Acclamation) added some valuable black-type to her CV when she prevailed on her first start as a three-year-old in the Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes (Gr 3, 8.5f) at Tampa Bay Downs and in the process gave Coolmore Stud-based sire Australia (Galileo) his 17th stakes winner.
Trained by Chad Brown, the three-year-old filly - who was narrowly beaten into second in the Lady of Shamrock Stakes (Listed, 8f) at Santa Anita in December - pulled clear to beat New York Girl (New Approach) by a length, while Margaret’s Joy (English Channel) came home another length and a half away in third.
The filly was purchased by owner Klaravich Stables for 325,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Castlebridge draft and she is one of two winners out of the twice-raced Acclamation (Royal Applause) mare Anklet.
Anklet herself is a daughter of Group 3 winner Steel Princess (Danehill) and she also produced Canadian Grade 1 scorer Sarah Lynx (Montjeu), this season’s Geelong Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) winner Steel Prince (Nathaniel) and fellow Group 3 winner Sugar Boy (Authorized).
Australia’s progeny is headed by Order Of Australia, who landed the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Gr 1, 8f) in November and last year’s St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6.5f) winner Galileo Chrome and he is now standing at Starfield Stud. Australia himself is standing at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €25,000.
