21st Grade 1 winner for Speightstown
WinStar Farm-based stallion Speightstown (Gone West) sired his 21st Grade 1 winner on Saturday when the John Sadler-trained Flagstaff (7 g ex Indyan Giving by A.P. Indy) broke through at the top-level for the first time when he led home a quinella for the stallion in the Churchill Downs Stakes (Gr 1, 7f). The seven-year-old gelding came into the race off the back of a victory in the Commonwealth Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at Keeneland on April 3 and he defeated  Lexitonian by a head. The mare was purchased by Grand Oaks for US$220,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and she was then subsequently bought by Michael Lund Petersen for US$1.8 million at the 2019 Fasig Tipton Midlantic Spring Two-Year-Old Sale.
