Bolshoi Ballet lands the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes
On the day that his sire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) died, his son Bolshoi Ballet (3 c ex Alta Anna by Anabaa) won the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes to become Group / Grade One winner number 92 for the multiple champion sire.
Under Ryan Moore, Bolshoi Ballet went wide round the home turn and then ran on in the straight to pull clear and score by a length and a quarter. Tokyo Gold (Kendargent) finished on well to take second with a neck back to Cellist (Big Blue Kitten) in third.
Bred by Lynch-bages and Rhinestone Bloodstock, Bolshoi Ballet has now won four of his seven career starts that include the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (Gr 3, 1m2f) and Ballysax Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f). He is a brother to Zipping Classic (Gr 2, 2400m) winner Southern France being out of the unraced Anabaa (Danzig) mare Alta Anna.
Galileo has been crowned champion sire 12 times to date and it was announced that he had died on Saturday at the age of 23 due to a chronic, non-responsive, debilitating injury to the left fore foot.
On the day of his passing GALILEO sires his 92nd Gr.1 winner as Bolshoi Ballet lands the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes for @Ballydoyle & the Coolmore partners.
