First Winner For Fighting Sun

3 minute read

Victorian-based stallion Fighting Sun sired his first winner when 2YO filly Platinum Mam'selle won her second start at Trentham in New Zealand on January 13.

A resident of Sun Stud, Fighting Sun is a son of Northern Meteor who went to stud after brief undefeated racing career of only two starts in Sydney including a win in the Listed Canonbury Stakes.

The Lisa Latta-trained Platinum Mam’selle was an $80,000 purchase by Beamish Bloodstock from the Woodside Park Stud draft at last year’s Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

She had flashed home first-up at Awapuni last month after losing ground at the start.

“She’s a pretty easy filly to train and I think she’s ready to try black type,” Latta predicted.

Platinum Mam’selle is out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Miss Fascination, a daughter of the Bibury Flying (Zafonic) who won Listed races in the UK and Ireland.

Fighting Sun, trained by Gai Waterhouse, was retired early due to injury. He covered 143 mares last spring.
