A Dundeel filly brought the top price of $90,000 at the Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale on Sunday.
The filly, offered by Jazcom Thoroughbreds, was purchased by Victorian stud master Tony Ottobre.
The filly is out of the unraced Pins mare My Holidaze and is a half-sister to the winner Nanita (Not A Single Doubt).
Ottobre's Cape Schanck Stud has been an active buyer of yearling fillies this year, making eight purchases across five sales for almost $850,000.
Ottobre said he saw similarities in the yearling with his star High Chaparral filly Princess Jenni.
“She is very similar in type to Princess Jenni, who we obviously have a massive opinion of,” Ottobre said.
“I went through the catalogue looking for classic horses and am excited to get this filly.
“She will be trained by David Brideoake.”
The sale saw 188 lots sold for $3.445,250 at an average of $18,326, comparted to last year’s figures when 200 lots mdae $3,853,000 at an average of $19,265.
The median price was $11,000 with a clearance rate of 87%.
The top colt of the sale was a Brazen Beau youngster from Refit purchased by Shane Nichols for $80,000. He a half-brother to the Listed winner Cavaloce (Testa Rossa).
Bendigo trainer Shaun Dwyer also went to $80,000 for a Street Boss filly out of the city winner Radar (Exceed and Excel), dam of Saturday’s Hawkesbury winner Intuition (Street Cry).
Blue Gum Farem was the leading vendor by aggregate, selling 18 yearlings for a total of $487,000 at an average of $28,647.
Mornington trainer Kane Harris was the biggest spender, paying $132,000 for four lots while Vietnamese-based buyer Keyhinge picked up 11 yearlings at the lower end of the market for a total of $47,000.
Toronado, sire of Saturday’s $1 million VOBIS Showdown winner Prince of Sussex, topped the sires list with seven lots sold for an aggregate of $210,000 while Turffontein led the sire averages for stallions with three or more lots sold at $30,875.
Leading trainers in the market included Lindsay Park, Maher/Eustace, Mick Price and Mike Moroney plus buyers from Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Macau.
