3 minute read

Kentucky's Spendthrift Farm moved quickly complete the acquisition of breeding rights to multiple G1-winning sprinter Mitole after he added the G1 Forego Stakes to his record at Saratoga on Saturday.

Mitole (Eskendereya x Indian Miss by Indian Charlie) will continue racing before starting his stud career in 2020. His initial service fee has been set at $US20,000 but will be subject to review in regard to his performances before he is retired.

"There aren't many horses in recent history that have shown as much consistent brilliance as Mitole," said Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey.

"On top of having rare ability, he's an extremely good-looking animal. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to stand him."

Owners Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt and trainer Steve Asmussen have the Breeders' Cup Sprint in November penciled as the career finale for Mitole.

Mitole and won nine of his 13 starts to date including this year's G1 Churchill Downs Stakes and G1 Metroplitan Handicap before he set a new stakes record in the Forego Stakes over seven furlongs where he took his earning to more than $US2 million.

"After 30-plus years in the business I can say Mitole is clearly our fastest horse ever," said Bill Heiligbrodt after the 4YO clocked 1.20.80 in the Forego Stakes where he scored by three lengths.

Mitole is by Eskendereya, also the sire of G1 Met Mile winner Mor Spirit who also stands at Spendthrift.
