I Am Invincible’s sire Invincible Spirit has sired his first classic winner in the UK with the first-up success of Magna Grecia in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The son of Green Desert stands at the Irish National Stud with Magna Grecia prepared by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by his jockey son Donnacha for the Coolmore partnership of John Magnier and Derek Smith.

It was the tenth 2000 Guineas winner trained by O’Brien and the second in succession carrying Derek Smith’s purple and white colours after last year’s win by Saxon Warrior.

The win adds, at least in a small way, to the credits for I Am Invincible, who will be the most expensive advertised stallion standing at stud in Australia this year.

Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit x Cabaret by Galileo) was a 340,000gns purchase from the Tattersalls December Foal Sale and is a brother to two winners.

His dam Cabaret was a G3 winer and is a half-sister to stakes winners Drumfire (Danehill Dancer) and Ho Choi (Pivotal) from the stakes placed Witch Of Fife (Lear Fan).

She has also produced the multiple winner Ryker by Invincible Spirit.

Magna Grecia won the Doncaster 2YO Trophy last season and has sealed his future at stud. Invincible Spirit’s sons at stud in the northern hemisphere include Kingman.

Magna Grecia’s dam Cabaret is owned by former Moonee Valley Racing Club chairman Bob Scarborough, who keeps a number of broodmares at Norelands Stud in Ireland.

Scarborough purchased Cabaret for 600,000 guineas at the 2011 Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

She was the winner of two races, including the G3 Silver Flash S. and is also the dam of the multiple winner Invincible Ryker (Invincible Spirit {Ire}).

Cabaret has yearling colt and a foal by Siyouni and is in foal again to Invincible Spirit.

Scarborough owned Wood Nook Farm in Victoria for 20 years. The nursery now operates for new owners as Dorrington Farm.
