Classic winner Camelot has sired his first New Zealand winner his handsome son Blue On Black won at second time of asking at Ruakaka.

“He’s a beautiful looking horse and beautifully bred,” trainer Anne Herbert said. “He’s got a really good brain and I’m earmarking the Derby for him.”

A $90,000 Karaka purchase, Blue On Black is out of Arlington Rock (Fastnet Rock) and is a grandson of the G1 winner Arlingtonboulevard (Spinning World.)

• New Zealand Broodmare of the Year Bagalonllies has produced a colt at Highden Park by Tavistock.

The colt is a brother to the 2016 Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther, multiple Group-placed mare Milseain and G3 New Zealand Cup winner Gobstopper.

Libby Bleakley, who owns the boutique Manawatu farm with her husband Sam, said the arrival of the colt was a relief.

“He was 17 days overdue so we have been hanging out,” she said.

“The fact that she took the extra time to grow him out properly was appreciated by us. We’re very happy with him.

“He was 60.5kg at birth which is above average.”

• Triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva has given birth to a filly by Written Tycoon.

Makybe Diva (Street Cry) has produced six runners to date including this year’s Melbourne Cup entrant Surrey (High Chaparral) and the Tony McEvoy-trained Divanation (All Too Hard)
