The sale average was a solid $HK2.44 million while the median was $HK2.3 million.

The hammer fell at $HK4.8 million for the sale-topping lot, an Irish-bred half-brother to US G2 winner Ramazutti.

Another lot to catch bidders' eyes was a white-faced son of the great Frankel out of the G3 sprint winner Noelani. The French-bred gelding sold for $HK4.5 million.

Andrew Harding, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Executive Director, Racing, said: "We are very pleased with the results tonight.

""The sale was well-supported by owners and I think they got good value, which is important as our sales are all about providing opportunities for our owners.

Overall, the results met our expectations: the average of HK$2.44 million is healthy and in the current market it was a very good result."

Also among the night's highlights was a New Zealand-bred Darci Brahma gelding bought for $"HK3.5 million.
