Darley Double At Elwick

3 minute read

Victorian trainer Lee Freedman landed a stakes double in Tasmania on Sunday with Darley owned and bred fillies Chinchilla and Ludka.

Exceed And Excel filly Chinchilla proved too strong in the Elwick Stakes for two-year-olds, beating the Nadeem youngster Triple Asset in the Listed Racfe over 1100m.

Chinchilla, out of the Eternity Range filly Chestnut Star, is the 29th stakeswinner worldwide for Exceed And Excel (Danehill) and his fourth Australian stakeswinner this season.

Ludka, a Singspiel filly bred in the northern hemisphere bred to southern hemisphere time, led from start to finish for an upset win in the Listed Hobart Guineas.

She beat Tiger Won't Tell (Hold That Tiger) and the Sydney-trained favourite Teardrop Rock (Fastnet Rock).

Ludka, bred in England from the Danehill mare Laleta, added to the great record of Singspiel's progeny in Australia, becoming his 10th stakeswinner from limited runners.

Singspiel shuttled to Australia for only one season and was euthanased last year due to the effects of laminitis.
