Ad Valorem shot up the second crop sire table when his three-year-old colt Free Wheeling recorded a commanding victory in the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas on Saturday.
It was the first win by Free Wheeling since his success in the G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben last season and led home a quinella for his sire when his Peter Snowden-trained stablemate Pied A Terre finished second..
Free Wheeling is out of the winning Last Tycoon mare Miss Carefree, a half-sister to the dam of G1 performer Hydrometer and comes from the family of G1 winners Toltrice, Seltrice, Keltrice and Red Dazzler.
Fellow Ad Valorem colt Pied A Terre is a G2 winner who recently second in the G2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington.
The Guineas result will elevate Ad Valorem close to the top of the second-season sire table by earnings and take him to second position by number of winners with 21.
Ad Valorem was the winner of the G1 Middle Park Stakes as a two-year-old and the G1 Queen Anne Stakes as a four-year-old.
His other first-crop runners in Australia include the G3 winner Uate and G2-placed Detours.
Another Darley homebred winner on Saturday was the talented mare Mascareri, a five-year-old by Commands.
She claimed her first stakes victory in the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast.
Mascareri is out of the Grand Lodge mare Disguise, dam of the recent G3 winner Appearance, also by Commands.
Mascareri took her prizemoney to more than $400,000 with her eighth career win.
She is the tenth individual stakes winner for Commands, who has more winners than any other stallion in Australia or New Zealand this season.
His total rose to 119 on Saturday with his stars this season headed by the brilliant sprinter Rain Affair and Black Opal Stakes winner Epaulette.
Commands also has his G1-winning son Skilled starting his stud career this spring.
