Arrowfield SIres To The Fore At Trials

3 minute read

Arrowfield Stud products played a leading role with four winners and six placegetters by resident sires at Monday’s official Randwick 2YO barrier trials.

First season sire All American had his first trial winner when the filly Datable (ex First Date by Flying Spur), led home another pair of Arrowfield-sired fillies, Mafia Girl (Charge Forward x Sicilia by Flying Spur) and Vonetta (Not A Single Doubt x Magic Zefta by Viscount) in a time of 50.58 seconds for the 850 metres.

The Kris Lees-trained Datable, and Vonetta, were bought by Star Thoroughbreds at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale.

Mafia Girl was a Darby Bloodstock buy from the Arrowfield draft at the Inglis Sydney Classic Sale.

Leading young sire Snitzel was responsible for three trial winners, most notably Wandjina (ex La Bamba by Last Tycoon).

He is a $1 million colt purchased from Arrowfield’s Easter Sale draft by James Harron for Dr Edmund and Belinda Bateman.

Snitzel filly Taraneem (ex Cat Flap by Tale of the Cat) and his colt Scratch Me Lucky (ex Radiant Star by Success Express) also won their trials from the stables of Gerald Ryan and Paul Perry.

Manhattan Rain’s first trial runner Bergdorf (ex Miss Excellence by Exceed and Excel) finished an excellent second at Rosehill last Tuesday.

He was represented at the Randwick set by Giuliani, third in Scratch Me Lucky’s trial.

Giuliani, named after the famous New York mayor, is from the Commands mare Sea Eye Pea and will also race for Star Thoroughbreds.

Not A Single Doubt supplied both placegetters in Heat 8 with Sure And Fast (ex Regal Attraction by King’s Best) from the Bede Murray stable, second and Lord Beckworth (ex Lady Beckworth by General Nediym) from the Paul Perry yard third..

Another Not A Single Doubt filly, Donelle (ex Avarice by Zabeel) finished a half-length from the Bateman-owned Twirl to complete a Gai Waterhouse quinella in Heat 3.

Donelle was sold by Bellerive Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and is raced by Pierro’s owners Greg and Donna Kolivos.

The Kolivos colours were also worn by trial runner-up Tiare, a filly bred on the Flying Spur/Zabeel cross that has already produced Group-winning fillies Full Of Spirit and November Flight.

It ws a good week for first season sire All American as his first trial winner at Randwick Datable was followed by his son out of Lodore Falls (Redoute's Choice) selling for $155,000 at the opening session of the Magic Millions Horse in Training Sale at the Gold Coast.

All American, who also has 2YOs in the stables of Gai Waterhouse, David Hayes, Hawkes Racing, Gerald Ryan, Tony McEvoy & Paul Messara, stands at a fee of $16,500 inc. GST.
