Yarraman Park Stud’s young stallion Hinchinbrook has almost certainly sealed the Australian first season sire premiership by prizemoney after two of his progeny starred on Brisbane’s richest race day at Doomben on Saturday.
The son of Fastnet Rock produced the winners of both feature races for the two-year-olds on Stradbroke day, Press Statement maintaining his unbeaten record in the $600,000 JJ Atkins (1600m) after the impressive filly Flippant race d away the Listed Lancaster Stakes.
Press Statement is the first G1 winner for Hinchinbrook and the 14th this season for his trainer Chris Waller.While Beneteau is a clear leader by individual 2YO winners among the first crop sires Hinchinbrook has overtaken him to now lead the first season table by prizemoney thanks to his Doomben feature double.
Beneteau has sired nine individual winners of 11 races this season from 22 runners whileHinchinbrook has had six first crop winners of 12 races from 21 runners.
Hinchinbrook was trailing Beneteau by $160,000 in progeny earnings prior to Saturday but is now almost $300,000 ahead.Hinchinbrook’s first crop have earned $986,970, with Press Statement the biggest contributor with earnings of $492,775 from his three wins. Beneteau’s progeny have earned $699,785.
Press Statement’s success in the JJ Atkins provided solace for Waller and Yarraman Park Stud after Brazen Beau finished second in the race last year.Yarraman Park also stands Brazen Beau’s sire I Am Invincible, who was crowned Australian Champion First Season Sire last season and is currently the leading two crop sire by wins and second behind Medaglia d’Oro on earnings.
It will be some achievement for Yarraman Park, the family-run stud at Scone, to be standing successive first season sire championsPress Statement (Hinchinbrook x Kaaptive Empress by Kaaptive Edition) is a half-brother to Pressday, the Domesday colt Waller trained for the Muollo family to win the 2010 JJ Atkins when it was known TJ Smith Stakes.
Pressday, who also won the G2 Champagne Classic and QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes at the carnival and the G2 Sandown Guineas as a 3YO, is now at stud.Kaaptive Empress, the winner of nine races to 1600m, has had seven foals to race for four winners. She is a half-sister to Quaglino, dam of the Merson Cooper Stakes winner Dinner Date (Mossman) and Maybe Yes, dam of The Mighty Lions (Grosvenor), winner of the G1 Avondale Gold Cup.
The Mighty Lions is the dam of High Chaparral filly Vaquera, a G3 winner and G1 placed in the Queensland Oaks.Kaaptive Empress is from Nile Empress, a US Listed winner by the Nijinsky sire Upper Nile from I Assume, a non-winner by the Grey Sovereign sire Young Emperor.
I Assume’s sister Irule went to Roberto in America and produced Sookera, a leading 2YO in Europe in 1977 and a very good broodmare.Her daughter Kerali produced Hasili, the dam of five G1 winners by Danehill including one the champion sire Dansili.
Sookera and Kerali appears in the pedigrees of Sharkbite, the Redoute’s Choice sire standing in Victoria, and Animal Kingdom, the Dubai World Cup champion standing at Arrowfield Stud in NSW.Animal Kingdom’s sire Leroidesanimaux is by Blushing Groom’s son Candy Stripes from Dissemble, an Ahonoora mare out of Kerali.
Kaaptive Empress has a weanling filly by the late Street Cry and was covered by Hinchinbrook again last season.The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Flippant (Hinchinbrook x Lady Beckworth by General Nediym) recorded her second at stakes win after she won the Listed Woodlands Stakes at her previous start at the Scone Cup carnival.
Gai Waterhouse’s Fastnet Rock filly Harlem River finished second at Scone and that form stood up when she chased home Flippant in the $100,000 Lancaster Stakes.Flippant has recorded three wins and a second from five starts for earnings of $172,710 after being purchased for $220,000 by McKeever Bloodstock from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Her dam Lady Beckworth is a winning half-sister to the Zabeel mare Regard, the dam of G1 winners Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel.Lady Beckworth has a weanling filly by Snitzel and was served by I Am Invincible last spring.
