Champagne Stakes winner Go Indy Go has been retired and will go to champion sire Fastnet Rock this spring.

The decision to retire the Bernardini four-year-old G1 winner was made after her last start failure in the Listed Penny Edition Stakes at Morphettville on August 22.

Go Indy Go has struggled to regain the form that saw her win the G1 Champagne Stakes at Randwick as a two-year-old.

She went winless as a three-year-old although she was placed twice in G2 races in the Tranquil Star Stakes and Moonee Valley Vase.

She returned to racing last month but disappointed her trainer Leon Macdonald with her two unplaced efforts at Morphettville.

Go Indy Go retires with two wins from 11 starts for earnings of $420,450.

“We’ve decided to put her to stud,” said managing owner Harry Perks. “It’s the start of the stud season and we’ve got her into Fastnet Rock.

“We’ll give her the best chance. She deserves it.”

Go Indy Go if from the quality producer Elegant Eagle, already the dam of three stakes performers, and may be offered at a coming broodmare sale once she is in foal.

“I’ll keep my options open,” said Perks.

“Her dam is in foal to Bernardini and I’m hoping for a filly. That’s another reason I can keep my options open.

“In the past I have sold my Group 1-winning mares because there’s a lot of capital tied up in them.

“If you have to pay huge service fees, it makes them a risky business.

“We’ve bred horses like Serious Speed, Southern Speed and Devil Moon without having to send Group 1 mares to top stallions.”

• FASTNET ROCK sired his 81st stakes winner, his tenth in Europe and first in Italy when 3YO filly Reset In Blue won the Listed Premio Pietro Bessro in Milan on Sunday for trainer Stefano Botti.
