Vergara, a Group 3 winner by Snippetson for the Anthony Cummings stable, brought the top price on the third day of the Australian Broodmare Sale in Sydney.

Offered by Princes Farm as agent for her owners, Vergara was purchased by Heritage Bloodstock’s Paul Guy on behalf of Victoria’s Blue Gum Farm.

The four-year-old attracted significant interest due to her excellent autumn carnival form that included a fourth behind Winx in the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick last month.

Guy said there was no intention to retire Vergara to stud immediately with the G1 Tatts Tiara at Eagle Farm in June an obvious target for the mare in Brisbane.

“She will be bred this spring but not before we give her a freshen-up and take her to Brisbane,” Guy said.

“She does well first up so we’re looking forward to seeing some results,

“We’re excited to get her as she’s out of a half sister to Blue Gum’s sire Turffontein. We have a lot of respect for the family.”

Victorian clients have secured 11 of the top 15 lots and over 120 mares in total during the sale.

The gross is more than $22 million, well up on the $17.5 million for the total sale in 2015, and is averaging $60,245.
