More Group One Success For Deceased Beneteau

3 minute read

Deceased stallion Beneteau sired his second Group One winner when the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Prompt Response won the final major of the Australian season at Doomben on Saturday.

Prompt Response (Beneteau x Prompt by Exceed And Excel) ran out a convincing winner of the G1 Tattersall's Tiara (1350m) to add to Arrowfield Stud’s loss of Beneteau in 2013 after siring only two crops.

The son of Redoute’s Choice is sorely missed as those two crops to race have produced seven stakes winners including his G1 winners Prompt Response and VRC Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit.

Prompt Response is a deserving G1 winner as was second in the Tatts Tiara in 2017 behind Tycoon Tara and has never finished worse than fifth in seven G1 and G2 starts including seconds in the G1 Queen Of The Turf and G2 Dane Ripper Stakes at her previous start.

“We’ve always trained her to get out in trip because they’ve been the most suitable races for her against the mares but now that she’s got that Group 1 I’d really like to see if we can mix up her training and train her as a real speed horse and see what we can achieve with her,” Bott said.

“We really want to keep a race like The Everest open for her because she’s really in the best form of her career now.”

Saturday’s win was Prompt Response’s sixth success in 27 starts and took her prize-money to $1,481,350.

The mare was retained by her breeder Ronnie Hamer after she was passed in at the 2014 Magic Millions Yearling Sale for $65,000.

Her dam Prompt is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Montoux (Montjeu) and has had four foals to race for four winners.

They include Prompt Return (Beneteau) who won seven races including the G3 Maribyrnong Stakes and Dissident (Sebring) who was sold for $525,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Prompt has a weanling colt by Medaglia d’Oro and was served by Capitalist last spring.

Shamardal’s French Derby winner Lope De Vega sired his 41st stakes winner when the imported 4YO Divine Unicorn won the G3 Tattersall's Cup at Doomben.

The Matt Dunn-trained Divine Unicorn (Lope De Vega x Inchberry by Barathea) was having his eighth start for his fourth win in his first try at 2200m.

His stakes placed dam Inchberry is a half-sister to the Irish G3 winner Ursa Major (Galileo) and the Listed winner Inchiri (Sadler’s Wells), who is the dam of seven winners including the G3 winner Hawk’s Eye (Hawk Wing).

Inchberry has produced four winners including the stakes placed Measuring Time (Dubai Destination).

Divine Unicorn is Lope De Vega’s ninth stakes winner this season and 11th overall. They include his dual G1 winners Santa Ana Lane and Vega Magic.

Lope De Vega has not stood in Australia since 2014. He is now based at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland.

Hinchinbrook’s classy stakes winner Spright added the G3 Healy Stakes at Doomben to her record and will race on next season.

Racing in the famous purple and white silks of the White family, the 4YO Spright (Hinchinbrook x Dashoff by Dash For Cash) has won three G3 races among her five wins from 21 starts for prize money of $637,925.

A $100,000 purchase from Session 2 of the 2015 Easter Yearling Sale, Spright is a half sister to the stakes-placed Mine Two (I Am Invincible).

Their dam Dashoff was served by Teofilo last spring and has a 2YO filly by Arlington.

Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) is the sire of 13 stakes winners from four crops to race including this season’s G1 Champagne Stakes winner Seabrook.

For her sixth win and having only three times finished worse than fourth in 27 starts, the ultra consistent and honest Prompt Response, a close second (beaten a neck) in this race last year, was deservedly rewarded with her maiden Group 1 win and a clear cut win it was. She was away quickly to lead early, holding the rail and a narrow lead to the first corner. Rider Blake Shinn kept her against the fence even though headed and held that advantage into the home straight. Regaining the lead at the 300m Shinn booted her clear and had them in trouble at the 150m and although the chasers ate into her lead she had more than a length up her sleeve at the finish. In a crowded line up for the minors, a huge finish from Shillelagh who was second last at the 400m and flew down the outside very late to grab second. Super Cash moved up to make a line of three turning in, looked to be the biggest danger and fought hard all the way to the line for third. Savanna Amour was second at the 300m and had every chance only to be swamped late for fourth. Daysee Doom had her chances in the straight but battled hard to dead heat for fifth with Invincibella who finished strongly from well back.
