160 Stakeswinners For Redoute's Choice

3 minute read

Champion sire Redoute’s Choice was represented by his 160th stakeswinner when his son Super Maxi recorded an all-the-way victory in the Listed Belmont Newmarket in Perth on Saturday.

It was his first success beyond 1100 metres which puts a Perth summer sprint campaign on the cards.

Super Maxi won four races as a 3YO in Sydney for Arrowfield and Wayne McGuire.

He was then sold to Perth trainer Chris Gangemi who has enjoyed considerable success with Arrowfield stable graduates, notably the multiple Group winner and G1 performer Rock Magic, also by Redoute’s Choice.

Super Maxi was bred by Dr Dennis Bowden, David Goldfinch & Wayne McGuire from their fine racemare Ocean Challenger (Rubiton), whose eight wins included the G3 Tesio Stakes.

A few hours after Super Maxi’s stakes win Ocean Challenger delivered a three-quarter sister by Scissor Kick.

She will be served this spring by Pariah, the latest addition to Arrowfield’s dynamic dynasty.

Ocean Challenger has an unraced full brother to Super Maxi, bought for $100,000 by Gangemi and Cameron Cooke Bloodstock from the Lyndhurst Farm draft at the 2017 New Zealand Premier Sale.

The 2YO Olympic Glory-Ocean Challenger filly was also a $100,000 purchase, this time by Paul Perry from the 2018 Easter Sale.

Redoute’s Choice had 14 stakeswinners in Australia, France, England and New Zealand last season.

He has sired over 1000 winners and his 160 stakeswinners maintain his world-class 12% SW/Runners strike rate.

His influence is now exercised principally through his dynasty of sire sons and priceless broodmare daughters.

Sebring was provided with his 46th stakes winner courtesy of Master Ash’s win in the G3 Up and Coming Stakes at Randwick.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt stayed on strongly to beat Danawi (Exceed And Excel) by a length with Smart Elissim (Smart Missile) third. Sebring’s progeny are headed by G1-winning quartet Dissident, Criterion, Egg Tart and Lucky Bubbles.

Master Ash (Sebring x Hanky Panky by Anabaa) could now be set for the G1 Golden Rose at Rosehill next month.

Master Ash was a $170,000 purchase at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

His dam Hany Panky was stakes-placed and is a half-sister to successful stallion Not A Single Doubt.

Her other foals include the Listed winner Fun In Flight (Fusaichi Pegasus) and dual Listed winner Come Hither.

A $1.1 million yearling, Come Hither is the dam of Listed winner Cohesion.

Hanky Panky was sold for $400,000 at the 2014 Teeley Asset Dispersal while in foal to Redoute’s Choice. Her subsequent filly was sold for $500,000 to Gai Waterhouse Racing and Julian Blaxland at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

Hanky Panky was covered by Sebring last spring.

Nicconi, who stands with Sebring at Widden Stud, provided his 17th stakes winner when the Lindsay Park-trained Tony Nicconi won the G3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield.

Tony Nicconi (Nicconi x Wickham by Elusive Quality) is unbeaten in his two starts with David Hayes suggesting he would be kept to the sprinting distances, with the trainer earmarking a tilt at the G1`Coolmore Stud Stakes in November.

Hayes said Tony Nicconi would likely take in the G3 McNeil Stakes and the G2 Danehill Stakes along the way.

Tony Nicconi is raced by his breeders Peter Devitt and the Gordon family, who also bred and raced his sire Nicconi.

His dam Wickham was covered by Nicconi last spring.

High class Zoustar filly Sunlight bounced back to wining form in the G3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

Sunlight (Zoustar x Solar Charged by Charge Forward) was beaten first-up in Adelaide and is now on track for G1 targets later in the spring.

Sunlight is one of three stakes winners for Widden Stud’s champion first season sire Zoustar, the others being G2 winners Zousain and Lean Mean Machine.

Sunlight was purchased for $300,000 from the Widden Stud draft at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale.

She is one of three winners from the G3 winner Solar Charged while her younger sister was purchased by McEvoy Mitchell Racing/David Redvers Bloodstock for $600,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Solar Charged has a yearling Sebring colt and is in foal to Zoustar.

The first foals by young stallion Stratum Star hit the ground just 48 hours before his late sire Stratum had another notable stakes winner at Randwick.

Stratum’s high class mare Egyptian Symbol won her seventh race and took her earnings to more than $870,000 when she won the G3 Toy Show Quality at Randwick on Saturday.

Bred and retained by Cressfield Stud after she was passed in at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Egytpian Symbol is one of six winners from the G1 winner Our Egyptian Raine.

Fiesta

I Am Invincible filly Fiesta recorded a classy first-up victory in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick.

Last season’s G3 Widden Stakes winner will continue through the four-race Darley Princess Series which culminates in the G1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Fiesta ( I Am Invincible x Now Now by Danehill Dancer) was a $150,000 purchase at the 2017 Classic Yearling Sale by Star Thoroughbreds and Chris Waller Racing from the Fairhill Farm draft.

She has now won twice with a further four placings from seven starts with prize money of $434,550.

Fiesta is one of four foals to race and one of three winners for Now Now, a half-sister to the stakes-placed Rock Cocktail (Rock Of Gibraltar).

The filly’s third dam is the Listed winner Vowed (Without Fear), who had eight foals to race for six winners including stakes winners Stick Around (Twig Moss), Charm Scene Land (Brocco) and Kingsgate (Danzero).

Now Now has a yearling colt by Outreach and is due to foal to Capitalist in September.

Fiesta is one of 32 stakes winners by I Am Invincible and his second already this season.

With his five previous wins at 1100m or shorter and only once tried at 1200m in 18 starts, could frontrunner Super Maxi see out the distance? He sped to the front as usual but rider Peter Knuckey gave him a breather at the 600m then shot clear again entering the home straight. Past the 200m he was cruising, Knuckey punched him out and the break was too much for the chasers and he held on well for his first stakes by a half length at the post. Yeah Dardy tracked the winner (fence) in fourth to the straight, got the split at the 100m and ran on well but too late. Rebel King sat outside the winner to the straight, challenged but faded to third from top weight Profit Street who was equal last, locked away on the rails, then finished well between runners to grab fourth late.
