US-bred import Homesman provided his sire War Front with his first Australian Group One winner when he showed his class in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday.
War Front, a son of Danzig, is the sire of 19 G1 winners worldwide but his progeny have had little racing exposure in Australia.
However he has been well represented by his sons at stud including Air Force Blue, Declaration Of War, The Factor, Lancaster Bomber, Fog Of War and Peace And War.His brilliant triple G1 winner US Navy Flag has landed in Australia to run for Coolmore in the $13 million Everest at Randwick on Saturday week.
War Front, who has sired 76 stakes winners, stands at Claiborne Stud in Kentucky. His 2018 fee was $US250,000.
His 5YO gelding Homesman (War Front x My Annette by Red Ransom) races for Lloyd and Nick Williams and came to Australia as a Group 3 winner. He won the Listed Victoria Cup in February at his first start in Melbourne and has now won four of his 11 starts with four placings for prize-money of $841,874.
Homesman is a half-brother to dual Listed winner US Ranger (Danzig) and seven other winners from My Annette, a three-quarter sister to successful sire US Dynaformer (Roberto) and a half-sister to stakes winner White Bridle (Seattle Slew)."'It's great to get the Group 1 up for him. It gives him ballot free exemption into the Caulfield Cup and I'd imagine all things being equal, that's where we'll head,” said Nick Williams.
“He's a big, gross horse. He's interesting, we were a little bit wary buying him as he's by War Front and they're not known for training on as older horses but Homesman is defying that trend.“He's a super sire in America, but mainly with juvenile horses and short-course horses."
