Fastnet Rock Filly Flies For The Snowdens

3 minute read

The Peter and Paul Snowden training team sent out their second feature 2YO winner of the season at Randwick on Saturday when Fastnet Rock filly Anaheed won the Victory Vein Plate on debut.

Anaheed (Fastnet Rock x Rostova, by Testa Rossa), a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, joins impressive stablemate Catch Me (I Am Invincible) as the second juvenile winner of the season for the Snowdens after her debut win the G3 Gimcrack Stakes two weeks ago.

Foaled and raised at Coolmore Stud, Anaheed is the third winner for Group I winning Testa Rossa mare Rostova.

Tim Stakemire purchased Rostova for Sheikh Mohammed for $850,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2015 when she was in foal to Frankel.

That mating produced promising three year-old colt Farooq.

Anaheed came on the radar as a late entry for Saturday’s race after she won a trial at Warwick Farm last week.

"She only trialled on Monday. It wasn't a very testing trial and she had a fair bit in hand," Paul Snowden said.

"When noms were extended we thought let’s have a lash and see if we draw well.”

Euginio (Fastnet Rock x Starstone, by Diktat) became the latest Group winner for the champion sire at Newmarket in the UK on Saturday.

Trained by Richard Hannon for Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar, the four-year-old won the G3 Darley Stakes for the fifth career success by the 155,000gns purchase.

Reigning Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Sunlight added another Group win to her growing resume when she landed the G3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield.

The daughter of Zoustar controlled the race from the front before showing a good kick in the straight to win softly.

Trainer Tony McEvoy was impressed with the performance and suggested Sunlight may start against older rivals in the G1 Manikato Stakes was on the cards.

A $300,000 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Aquis Farm and Blue Sky Bloodstock, Sunlight’s earnings have now passed $2.37 million.

Grand sprinter Casino Wizard led home a quinella result for Magic Millions graduates in the Listed Durbridge Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

The son of Any Given Saturday, prepared by Lee Creek, held out the lightly raced Victorian mare Petrelle in the feature race.

Casino Wizard, now the winner of $716,000, was a graduate of the Barrine Thoroughbreds draft at the 2012 Adelaide Yearling Sale.

Show A Heart’s son Toorak Toff sired his first stakes winner courtesy of Iconoclasm in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes at Caulfield.

Iconoclasm (Toorak Toff x Gold Lottey by Encosta De Lago) beat Fastnet Tempest (Fastnet Rock) by just over two lengths for the Darren Weir stable.

Toorak Toff is now standing in Tasmania at Kingsley Park, having relocated from Rosemont Stud in Victoria this year.

The Shayne Cahill-trained filly Burn Off (Krupt x Grassfire by Grass Wonder) won the Listed Hill Smith Stakes at Morphettville to provide her Flying Spur sire with his first stakes winner.
