First Crop Sires Off The Mark

3 minute read

First crop sires Time For War, Better Than Ready and Whittington had their first 2YO winners on October 20.

Time To Reign, by the ill-fated Time For War, lived up to his pedigree with a strong debut win at Randwick in the Kirkham Plate.

Time To Reign (Time For War x Courgette by Charge Forward) is a half-brother to 2017 Golden Slipper Stakes winner She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain) and cost $325,000 as a yearling at the 2018 Magic Milions Gold Coast

Like She Will Reign he races for a Darby Racing syndicate and is trained at Warwick Farm by Gary Portelli.

She Will Reign cost Darby Racing only $20,000 as a yearling in 2016. She also won the G1 Moir Stakes as a 3YO and was retired this year and sent to Japan for broodmare duties.

Darby Racing also bought and syndicated Time For War, who stood for two seasons at Kitchwin Hills and covered 165 mares before his premature death in 2016.

At Doomben, Lyndhurst Farm's Better Than Ready sired his first winner when The Odyssey recorded an easy win in the QTIS 2YO Hcp at his second start.

It was a special success for trainer Kelly Schweida, who prepared Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) during his career.

The Odyssey was a $30,000 buy for Schweida at the 2018 Magic Millions Sale. He is out of the Snitzel mare Jessica's Hope, whose dam was half-sister to Irish Listed winner Judicial.

At the Gold Coast Button Pusher marked the first win for Whittington.

Button Pusher (Whittington x Feelin Fiesty by Chosen Light) was third on debut at Doomben and showed good improvement second time out for trainer Brad Witt.

Whittington (Tale Of The Cat) stands at Grandview Stud,

In Adelaide Sebring filly Sebrakate is headed to the Magic Millions after notching a narrow win over her Lindsay Park-trained stablemates Emconi Star (Equiano) and Power Scheme (Fiorente).

Lindsay Park also won the 2YO race at Bendigo with Espinola (Bel Esprit).
