South American-bred sire Host, a son of the notable Hussonet, has a spring star in the exciting sprinter Eduardo.
Eduardo became the sixth stakes winner by Host when he continued his fairytale rise with a classy win in last Saturday’s G2 Caulfield Sprint for trainer Sarah Zschoke.
A late developing 5YO gelding Eduardo’s (Host x Blushing by Fantastic Light) joins Philippi, Hosting, Mighty Like, Miss It And A Bit and Conflight as Host’s other stakes winners.Eduardo only had his first start in June when he won a maiden at Moe by six lengths. He now has three wins and two seconds from five outings earning $209,950.It’s a dream run for Zshocke and Eduardo’s owner-breeder Jane Kaufman considering he was bred from a $4000 mare and was not broken in until he was a 4YO.
Kaufmann run 11 mares and former racehorses on a 55-acre property south-east of Melbourne and had left Eduardo in a paddock until he was a 4YO.Kaufmann and co-owner Nick Cresci had purchased Eduardo’s dam Blushing, a Fantastic Light mare, for $4000 at a Melbourne thoroughbred sale when she was in foal to Domesday.
The Domesday foal My Angus recorded one win in 11 starts and was placed at Flemington and a following half sister by Keffelstein named Watch Me Blush won at her first start at Pakenham in record time. When Watch Me Blush was retired early this year Kaufman decided it was time to try Blushing’s next foal, her colt by Host, and entrusted him to Zschoke, a former Tasmanian apprentice rider who has been training small team of horse in Victoria for several years.
Eduardo is Blushing’s last foal. She was found dead her in the paddock from a snakebite.Eduardo is now having a spell and will be set for the Oakleigh Plate and the Newmarket Handicap in the autumn.
Eduardo is one of only two stakes performers in his first three dams, the other being the seven-time winner Peggy Ann (Bletchingly).Argentine-bred Host initially started his Australian stud career at Swettenham Stud in Victoria in 2008. He now stands at Willow Grove Stud in SOuth Australia, a stud that has enjoyed success standing notable sires Holborn, Blazing Saddles, Keepers and Stargazer.
Host’s progeny won $1.5 million in stakes last season and he is currently South Australia’s leading active sire.
