Leading sire I Am Invincible had two notable winners on both sides of the Tasman last Saturday at Moonee Valley and Ellerslie.
High priced juvenile filly Espaaniyah (I Am Invincible x Catalonia by Flying Spur) made an auspicious debut to claim the $500,000 Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley for the Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott stable.
At Ellerslie the 3YO filly Media Sensation won the G3 Soliloquy Stakes to become I Am Invincible’s 37th stakes winner.Easter filly Espaaniyah is the first horse eligible to claim the new $3 million Inglis Triple Crown following her debut.The Tyreel Stud bred filly was purchased for $750,000 by Emirates Park at 2018 Australian Easter Yearling Sale and is the seconds successive winner of the Inglis Banner for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott after they won the race last year with Setsuna.
To collect the Inglis Triple Crown and bonus Espaaniyah must now win the new $2 million Inglis Millennium at Warwick Farm in February and the G1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick in April.Espaaniyah, bred by Wallings Bloodstock, was one of three horses Emirates Park purchased at this year’s Easter Sale in the hope of finding another Golden Slipper winner after their success in the big race with sale products Estijaab (2018) and Mossfun (2014 ).
She is the second foal out of the stakes-placed Flying Spur mare Catalonia, a half-sister to G3 winner Jorda (Exceed And Excel) and the G3 placed Pursuits (Lonhro).Their dam Montmelo (Viscount) is a stakes placed relation to Listed winner Le Mans (Quest For Fame) from the six-time winner Road To Glory (Provideo).
Catalonia has a yearling colt by Pride Of Dubai to be sold at the Magic Millions in January and she has been tested in foal again to I Am Invincible.Catalonia was purchased by Tyreel Stud for $360,000 at the 2015 National Broodmare Sale in foal to More Than Ready.
The resultant filly was sold for $625,000 as a yearling and has been placed at her only start in Western Australia.Media Sensation, a 425,000 Premier Sale purchase, stepped up to stakes level for the first time in the Soliloquy Stakes after a win at Rotorua just seven days earlier and is now among the favourites for the NZ 1000 Guineas at Riccarton on November 17.
Media Sensation (I Am Invincible x Different To by High Chaparral) has had five starts for four wins, earning $73,875 in prize-money for owners Sarah Green and Ger Beemsterboer’s Barneswood Farm.
