Unbeaten youngster Time To Reign has quickly put the now deceased first crop sire Time To War on the map after establish himself as a top flight contender for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
Time To Reign followed his debut win at Randwick on October 20 with another excellent victory over 1100m at Rosehill on Saturday for trainer Gary Portelli.
Time To Reign is the first winner by Time To War, a son of Snitzel who produced only two crops of foals at Kitchwin Hills Stud near Scone before his premature death, leaving 121 registered foals.A bay colt who cost a partnership of Portelli, Darby Racing and De Burgh Enterprises $325,000 at the Gold Coast last January, Time To Reign he runs for a big syndicate that includes his breeder Garry Bachell.The colt is a half-sister to She Will Reign, the Manhattan Rain filly who won the 2017 Golden Slipper for Portelli and Darby Racing.
Their dam Courgette, a Sydney 2YO winner by Charge Forward, is out of Our Farm Girl, an unraced daughter of Golden Slipper winner Marscay.Courgette was sold in Melbourne as a yearling for $25,000, but went for $2.1 million when offered in foal to I Am Invincible at the 2018 Gold Coast National Sale.
Offered by Yarraman Park Stud, Courgette was secured by Tony Bott bidding for E Thoroughbreds and his Evergreen Stud.“She’s a young mare and to have thrown a Group One winner with her first foal, we believe is possibly the making of a very good broodmare and she’s in foal to the champion sire in I Am Invincible. She ticked all the boxes for us,” Bott said at the time.
She Will Reign cost Darby Racing only $20,000 at the Sydney Classic Yearling Sale and Our Farm Girl changed hands at $70,000 2004, $19,000 2008 and just $400 in 2012.Our Farm Girl is a sister to Gimcrack Stakes winner Millie and a half-sister to the STC Winter Cup winner Touch of Sun (Snippets).
Darby Racing syndicated Time For War, who raced13 times and won three times as 2YO including the G2 Pago Pago Stakes and G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes.Time For War’s dam Lady Zabelia was by Zabeel from Miss Power Bird (Mukadamah) and was a half-sister to Danehill’s champion Hong Kong miler Lucky Owners.
Close relations include quadruple G1 winner Mosheen (Fastnet Rock) and Zabeel’s two-times Australian Horse of the Year Might And Power.
