Peters Homebreds Dominate Ascot's Big Day

3 minute read

Redoute’s Choice sired his 34th Group One winner when outstanding local mare Galaxy Star won the $1 million Railway Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The 6YO Galaxy Star caped a magnificent day for Perth’s leading owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Ppeters with their homebred runners winning four races including three black type features.

Galaxy Star (Redoute’s Choice x Galaxy Queen by Jeune) was joined by the exciting filly Arcadia Queen, rising talent Mississippi Delta and the promising Royal Statue, with all four ridden by star jockey William Pike

Pike produced a masterful ride to win the Railway Stakes, navigating a course away from an awkward rails position on the home turn to pounce on the leaders and win running away.

Galaxy Star is the third Peters-owned winner of the Railway Stakes, joining Old Comrade (Old Spice) in 2001 and Elite Belle (Canny Lad) in 2014.

"This is the race we have aimed for ever since she was foaled - we have looked after her,” Peters said.

Grant and Alana Williams train Galaxy Star, who has now 10 of her 13 starts and $981,000 with her next start to be in the $1 million Kingston Town Classic on December 8.

Galaxy Star is the second winner from the winning Jeune mare Galaxy Queen, a daughter of Lady Ashford (Royal Academy) and sister to the Listed winner Star Encounter.

Galaxy Queen died in 2013 having produced two foals.

Star Encounter is also the dam of G2 winners Star Exhibit (Statue Of Liberty) and Perfect Jewel (Redoute’s Choice) and Listed winner Royal Star (Redoute’s Choice), al raced by the Peters.

She is also a half-sister to Favourite Star (More Than Ready), who produced Listed winner Enticing Star (Testa Rossa).

Pierro filly Arcadia Queen, also trained by Grant and Alana Williams, enhanced her reputation when she led home a fillies trifecta in the G2 $500,000 WA Guineas.

It was her fourth win in five starts and made her the first filly since 1959 to land the WA Champion Fillies Stakes and WA Guineas double.

Arcadia Queen is set to take on Galaxy Star in the Kingston Town Stakes (1800m), Peters confident the fily wil measure up to her older rivals having won the race with another 3YO filly Perfect Reflection in 2015.

Arcadia Queen (Pierro x Arcadia by Redoute's Choice) is out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Arcadia, whose six foals to race have all been winners including G2 winner Arcadia Dream (Domesday) and Listed winner Arcadia Rose (Kheleyf).

Arcadia is a sister to Listed winners Antique Belle and Broadway Belle, the dam of G2 winner Action (Pierro).

Arcadia Queen’s third dam Bonny Guest (What Guest) produced eight winners including G2 winner Kalatiara (Metal Storm), the dam of Kalahaar (Choisir) and Listed winner Kentiara (Metal Storm).

Arcadia has a current 2YO by Sebring and has since produced two fillies by Domesday.

The late sire High Chaparral was credited with his 124th stakes winner when the Grant and Alana Williams-trained Mississippi Delta won the Listed Tattersall’s Cup.

The 5YO mare is out of the Marooned mare Mississippi Belle, also the dam of 2014 Railway Stakes winner Elite Belle (Canny Lad).

High Chaparral died in 2014, aged 15.

The Adam Durrant-trained Pinzu won the Listed Carbine Club Of WA Stakes at Ascot to become the 78th stakes winner for the late sire Pins.

Pins died earlier this year after complications caused by colic.

Karaka graduate Pinzu (Pins x Celebrate by Savabeel) was bought for $330,000 by John Chalmers Bloodstock at the 2014 NZN Premier Sale and has now had 29 starts for eight wins, 12 placings and 336,425 in prizemoney.

He is trained by Adam Durrant and was previously second in the Listed Old Comrade Stakes in April.

Pinzu’s second dam is a half-sister to champion stallion O’Reilly (Last Tycoon). Another close relative Madison County (Pins), won the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton earlier this month.

A Sacred Falls half-brother to Pinzu sold for $275,000 in Karaka Book 1 earlier this year. Another Sacred Falls colt will be offered as Lot 625 in the upcoming 2019 Book 1 Sale at Karaka in January.

War Chant filly Dance Music landed the Listed Placid Ark Stakes to provide her sire his 40th stakes winner.

The Simon Miller-trained three-year-old Dance Queen (War Chant x Fast Flowing by Dubawi) beat her stablemate Shapita (Foxwedge) by a length and a half with Festival Miss (Bernardini) in third.

War Chant stands at Yarradale Stud in Western Australia and ha sired three G1 winners Silent Sedition, Midnight Interlude and Kingsfort.

High-quality Bob Peters-raced mare Galaxy Star took her imposing record to ten wins from 13 starts in recording her second Group victory here, capping a great day for connections. She did not show any early pace and settled near the tail of the 15-horse field. William Pike steered her along the inner from the 600m, got through behind the leading group on straightening, eased deeper and into clear running at the 200m and she then dashed away to win impressively. It was yet another brilliant ride by Pike. Gatting travelled nicely back in eighth place on the rails, behind a solid pace. He went through to fifth nearing the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then fought on well for second. Topweight Material Man, who was having his first start since a winning hat-trick in June, raced back in third place, tracking the quick tempo, headed the free-running leader (Wrinkly) and went to the front at the home turn and held on well for a good third. Perfect Jewel, a stablemate of the winner, was last at the home turn, got along the inner on straightening but then struck traffic before running on well for fourth, looking somewhat unlucky. Of the eastern states-trained runners, Mister Sea Wolf did best in fighting on to dead-heat for fifth, Iconoclasm finished eighth, Prized Icon ninth with Peaceful State dropping out to finish last.
