Peters Sitting Pretty With Arcadia Family

3 minute read

Perth’s leading owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Peters are sitting pretty with the younger siblings to their star filly Arcadia Queen following her outstanding win in the $1 million Kingston Town Classic at Ascot on Saturday.

The Pierro filly proved she could challenge the best in Sydney and Melbourne when she trounced her older rivals for her fifth win in just six career starts since she started racing in September.

The Grant and Alana Williams-trained Arcadia Queen (Pierro x Arcadia by Redoute’s Choice) cruised home by 4.5 lengths to become only the second 3YO filly to win the prestigious Group One race since its inception in 1976 and take her earnings to almost $1.1 million.

The first was Perfect Reflection in 2015, also trained by the Williams team for Bob and Sandra Peters who have now raced five Kingston Classic winners.

However Arcadia Queen took it a step further as she is the first filly to win the WA Guineas, WA Champion Fillies Stakes and Kingston Town Stakes in the same season.

She is also the 24th G1 winner owned by Bob Peters since he started racing horses almost 50 years ago.

“We thought she was our best three-year-old filly at the start of the season,” said Peters.

“This is her first preparation and it is a bit unusual as we would normally not race a three-year-old this much in her maiden prep.

“She has just kept doing the job so well. I always thought Old Comrade was our best horse to win the Kingston Town as a three-year-old as he then went on to win four Group 1s.

“She has done more than he had done at this stage.”

Arcadia Queen is the third G1 winner in the first two racing crops by Pierro, the champion son of Lonhro who was unbeaten as a 2YO. Peters Investments is a shareholder in the Coolmore-based sire.

She is out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare Arcadia, a prize member of the vast 100 strong broodmare band owned by the Peters that reside at their Yalebrae Stud in WA or scattered at leading stud farms around Australia.

She is also the 13th G1 winner for Redoute’s Choice as a broodmare sire and his sixth this year

Arcadia’s six foals to race have all been winners including the G2 WA Derby winner Arcadia Dream (Domesday), Listed winner Arcadia Rose (Kheleyf) and six time winner Arcadia Prince (Pierro).

But what makes it better for her owners are Arcadia’s current 2YO by Sebring and two fillies by Domesday she has produced since Arcadia Queen.

They will hopefully also have a full relation to Arcadia Queen next year after Arcadia was served again by Pierro on October 29.

Arcadia (Redoute’s Choice x Antique by Metal Storm) is a sister to Listed winners Antique Belle and Broadway Belle, the dam of the G2 winner Action (Pierro). Antique was placed in the G1 VRC Oaks.

Arcadia Queen’s third dam Bonny Guest (What A Guest) produced eight winners including G2 winner Kalatiara (Metal Storm), the dam of Kalahaar (Choisir) and Listed winner Kentiara (Metal Storm).

Karaka graduate Celebrity Dream gave Bob and Sandra Peters another Ascot feature when she defended her title in the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.

It was the fourth black type victory for the daughter of Thorn Park, a $260,000 NZB Karaka Premier Sale purchase in 2014 for the Peters by WA agency John Chalmers Bloodstock.

Trained by Adam Durant for Peters Investments, Celebrity Dream has now had 20 starts for nine wins, six placings and $453,250 prizemoney.

In addition to her two Jungle Dawn Classic victories Celebrity Dream has also scored stakes wins in the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1600m) and Listed Starstruck Classic (1600m).

The NZ-bred mare is a daughter of the outstanding Red Ransom producer Valpolicella, winner of three races including the G3 Manawatu Classic and Listed Champagne Stakes.

Valpolicella is also the dam of Vavasour (Redoute’s Choice), winner of the G2 Sir Tristram Fillies’ Classic, G3 Counties Cup and G3 Waikato Cup, and Vilanova (Commands), winner of the G2 Autumn Classic, G3 Grand Prix, Listed Tattersalls Club Cup and Listed Star Way Stakes.

Star filly Arcadia Queen took out this Group 1 feature in brilliant fashion, her fifth win in six starts and her third Group success in six starts to date. She began well and settled nicely in fifth place, one off the rails, behind a solid tempo before improving well coming to the home turn. She dashed to the front at the 200m and then raced away to score easily by four and half-lengths, running the 1800m out really well. Material Man raced in seventh place, one off the rails, moved up nicely (deep) approaching the home turn and kept running on well for second. Galaxy Star raced towards the tail of the field, switched deeper and into clear running rounding the home turn and then came with a strong, late run, to take third. Gatting was midfield, on the rails, got along the inner at the home turn and ran on nicely for (6 lengths) fourth. The $201 outsider Prying Tom made ground from last at the 800m for fifth while Trap For Fools was a handy third, looked a threat when he moved up nearing the home turn before battling on quite well for (6.5 lengths) sixth.
