Arrowfield stallion Not A Single Doubt’s reputation as a ‘go to’ sire for Magic Millions buyers will be enhanced if his classy youngster Dubious maintains his unbeaten record at the Gold Coast on January 12.
Dubious (Not A Single Doubt x Suspicieuse by Elusive City) underlined his claims for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic when he won first-up over 1000m at Eagle Farm on Saturday in his first outing since he won the G3 Breeders Plate at Randwick in September.
Dubious is owned by Aquis Farms and their retained jockey Michael Walker made the trip from Melbourne to ride the colt in the first race to be run on the new Eagle Farm course proper after more than 600 days of renovation.Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Dubious sat four and five wide but still ran a slick 57.39 seconds for the 1000m, showing the speed and stamina that is required to win the demanding Gold Coast race.
“He's a top class colt,” Walker said. “I think he showed why he is one of the Magic Millions' favourites.“I reckon he's only going to get better and better.”
Dubious screams Magic Millions as his sire Not A Single Doubt was himself placed in the M Classic as a 2YO and has since sired the 2011 winner Karuta Queen.
A $350,000 buy at last January's Magic Millions sale by Aquis Farm and Ciaron Maher Racing, Dubious is the first foal out of the stakes-placed French import Suspicieuse (Elusive City), a relation to five winners including the French G3 winner Sediciosa (Rail Link). Her granddam Star Point (Shahrastani) is an unraced half-sister to five stakes performers headed by champion Japanese colt Neo Universe (Sunday Silence) and G3 winner Fairy Path (Irish River).
Suspicieuse was purchased at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale for €55,000 in 2013 and produced a colt by Foxwedge this spring before she ws served by Russian Revolution.Dubious is raced by a syndicate of female owners including Loretta Fung, the wife of Aquis supremo Tony Fung, who also had a share in last year's Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Sunlight.
