Boom Gelding Explodes At Doomben

Magic Millions contender Boomsara became the eighth stakes winner for his leading young sire Spirit Of Boom with his strong front running win in the G3 Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben on Saturday.

The Chris Munce-trained 3YO gelding won by four and a half lengths in a big trial for the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.

Boomsara, a $45,000 buy from the 2017 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale by Munce Racing, has won three races and placed three times from nine starts for prize-money of $361,400

The Eureka Stud-bred Boomsara (Spirit Of Boom x Passara by Tsuimai) is a half-brother three winners including the stakes-placed Sarisara (Red Dazzler).

His dam Passara (Tsuimai) is a half-sister to the stakes-placed McFly (Perugino) and McLoud (Jeune).

Eureka Stud retained a share in Boomsara and will offer his full brother at the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Spirit Of Boom was the leading first season sire by winners in 2017-18. His stakes winners include G3 winner Spirits Auber and Listed winners Outback Barbie, Ef Troop, Jonker and Champagne Boom.

Godolphin will have two wildcard starters on Magic Millions day after stakes wins by the classy pair Tally and Manicure at Doomben on Saturday.

Tally is now eligible for the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) while Manicure lines up in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m).

Manicure (Exceed And Excel x Trim by Lonhro) provided her sire with his 152nd stakes winner with her first-up victory in the Listed Nudgee Stakes, a win that has assured her of a start in the $1 million Magic Millions Fillies and Mares on January 12.

Godolphin’s decision to campaign Tally (Street Cry) in Brisbane paid dividends when he also earned a start on Magic Millions day with victory in the Magic Millions Shoot Out (2200m), gaining an entry into the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m).

Queensland-based Danehill sire Hidden Dragon was represented by his seventh stakes winner when Fiery Heights won the Listed Falvelon Handicap at Doomben.

Fiery Heights (Hidden Dragon x Mountain of Love by Monashee Mountain) earned him a wild card entry to the $1 million Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 12.

Redoute’s Choice stallion Drumbeats was provided with his second stakes winner when Bergerac won the Listed Bernborough Handicap at Doomben.

Bergerac (Drumbeats x Miss Argyle by Iglesia) will now be set for the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup on January 26.

The Kevin Kemp-trained Sold For Song ended a 30-month losing streak when she won the $150,000 Buffering Quality (1350m) at Doomben.

Sold For Song had not won since taking out the 2016 Daybreak Lover Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Sold for Song, a $2500 Gold Coast Yearling Sale buy from Burwood Stud, earned a wildcard into the $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on January 12.

Boomsara was impressive in winning here, taking his record to three wins and three placings (twice previously in Group class) from nine starts. He was quickly away from his wide barrier (12) and worked before crossing to the lead nearing the 800m. He then travelled well, dashed clear on straightening and went on to score by a big margin and in quick time. Pennino raced in fifth place to the home turn and kept running on to take second in a photo from Light Up The Room, who was handy on the rails most of the way before battling on well for third. The favourite Outback Barbie was caught deep from her outside barrier (14), settled in second last place and failed to get clear running until a very late stage and her (5.7 lengths) sixth should be overlooked.
