Exciting first crop sire Brazen Beau could be the stallion to give trainer Chris Waller a first win in the Golden Slipper Stakes after his classy youngster Accession added to his reputation at Rosehill on Saturday.
Accession, trained by Waller for Star Thoroughbreds, advertised his Golden Slipper Stakes credentials with his second successive win, scoring by almost five lengths over 1100m in one of the most impressive wins of the 2YO season.
"He is a definite Golden Slipper horse," Waller said. "He is improving all the time and will go to the Inglis Millennium next."Waller took Brazen Beau to multiple G1 wins and sees a lot of the sire in his young star.
“Just like his dad,” Waller said. “Colour, type, speed and the same temperament.“Hopefully we will get our hands on a few more of his progeny."
Brazen Beau went to stud in 2015 after winning two G1 races and finishing a close second in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.Accession is now the favourite for $2 million Inglis Millennium at Warwick Farm on February 9 while Brazen beau’s unbeaten colt Tassort is favourite for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes.
Accession won the Listed Inglis Nursery late last year and is alive for a $3 million bonus if he can the Millennium and the ATC Sires Produce Stakes in April.Vin Cox, Godolphin’s managing director in Australia, expects the Brazen Beau progeny to be in high demand at sales this season.
“Brazen Beau couldn’t have had a better start with the Slipper favourite Tassort and a stakes winner so early in the season,’’ Cox said.“He was a champion sprinter and now looks to be producing two-year-old’s who can really run. He’s an exciting stallion to follow.’’
Accession (Brazen Beau x Ready As Elle by More Than Ready) was purchased by Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds from the Widden Stud draft at 2018 Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, going above her normal limit on the advice of Henry Plumptre.
"He is out of a More Than Ready mare and I love More Than Ready,” Martin said.“I just thought he was a beautifully balanced colt. He has the looks and he handled the sale really well - good horses have good attitudes."
"I thought he was pretty special and it was just a matter of whether or not I could afford him.“I don't usually pay $300,000 but I had to have him.”
He was co-bred by Widden Stud and Jacob Park Thoroughbreds and both retained shares in the colt.Related to Singapore's champion sprinter Emperor Max (Holy Roman Emperor), Accession has a Zoustar half-brother at this year’s Easter sale.
