Trans Tasman Group Double For Dundeel

3 minute read

Exciting sire Dundeel added a trans-Tasman Group double to his growing list with winners at Caulfield and Matamata on Saturday.

Dundeel’s results this month have been outstanding with Saturday’s wins by high class 3YO Global Exchange at Caulfield and impressive 2YO Yourdeel at Matamata taking his black type tally from his first two crops to seven stakeswinners.

Global Exchange (Dundeel x Incredulous by Keep The Faith) won the G2 Autumn Classic at Caulfield for his third win in five starts and $152,000 prizemoney.

Bred by China Horse Club, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained three-year-old was purchased by Maher at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for NZ$130,000 from the Little Avondale Stud draft.

His dam Incredulous was purchased at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $200,000 and is a half-sister to G2 winner Faith Hill (Danehill), the granddam of Listed winner So Si Bon (So You Think).

Global Exchange’s half sister by Press Statement was sold for $340,000 at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The mare’s 2018 More Than Ready foal died and she was served by new stallion Invader this year.

Ridden by Ben Melham, Global Exchange made a big run from well back in the field and hit the lead 200 metres from home. He raced clear in the closing stages of the race, winning by two and a quarter lengths to put himself on the path to the Sydney 3YO classics.

“We always thought he was a Derby-type horse,” Maher said.

“He’s a real progressive horse and I think he’s got a really bright future heading into the Sydney autumn carnival.”

Little Avondale Stud also sold Yourdeel (Dundeel x Miss Zapper by Red Ransom) Waikato Stud Slipper at Matamata, at Karaka 2018 as a yearling for $NZ100,000.

A dominant debut winner at Te Rapa in December, Yourdeel placed behind star stablemate Probabeel in his next two starts including the $1m Karaka Million 2YO at Ellerslie.

On Saturday he showed how strong that form is by racing away to win by six lengths.

Yourdeel has now had four starts for two wins, two placings and $124,350 in prize-money.

Yourdeel was bred by Dan Myers, who sold him for $30,000 as a weanling at Karaka in 2017. He was bought by Little Avondale Stud, who sold him in their draft at Book 1 in 2018.

He is the third winner from four to race for three-time winner Miss Zapper, a half sister to the dam of G3 winner Broadband (Sebring).

Her granddam Voltage (Whiskey Road) is the dam of G1 winners Drum and Anamato and granddam of five-time G1 winner Grand Armee.

Having his first attempt at black type level Global Exchange graduated with flying colours with a big win here. He began fairly but soon drifted through the field to settle second last, remaining there down the back and down the side sitting one off the fence. At the 500m jockey Ben Melham woke him up and he accelerated quickly yet very wide to get handy just before the last corner, set after the leaders upon straightening then chimed in at the 200m. Inside the 200m he surged clear and kept pulling away to be two and a quarter lengths up at the line and a super win, his third in five starts. Cossetot sat fourth (rails) down the side, cruised into second just before straightening and took over at the 250m. He was caught a few strides later and could only watch the winner streak away while fighting well for his second. Aramayo tried to go with the winner from the top of the straight and finished well late take third from D'Grammy who was third turning in then battled well to hold a close up fourth.
