Godolphin’s prospects of a Golden Slipper Stakes win soared when the impressive Exceed And Excel colt Microphone won his first Sydney start at Randwick on Saturday.
Microphone, after his three Melbourne starts had yielded two wins and second, was a resounding winner of the G2 Skyline Stakes, recording much quicker time than the fillies in the Sweet Embrace Stakes.
Microphone, already one of Exceed And Excel’s 156 stakes winners, recorded the 15th juvenile win for Godolphin this season with their other 2YOs in line for the Golden Slipper including Tassort, Exhilarates, Tenley and Bivouac.Microphone is also the 36thg Group winning juvenile by Exceed And Excel, his others led by the G1 stars Guelph, Helmet, Earthquake and Overreach, who won the 2013 Golden Slipper.
A Godolphin homebred, Microphone is from the Anabaa mare Sung, a stakes winning full sister to champion sprinter Yell.Sung is also a half-sister to the dam of G1 winner Holler (Commands) from a half-sister to two-time G1 winner Anthems (Palace Music).
Sung has had three winners from four to race including five time winner Lieder (Street Cry). She was sold was sold by Godolphin at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale to Boomer Bloodstock for $70,000.Exceed And Excel also figured prominently as a broodmare sire on Saturday, being the dam sire of NZ Derby winner Crown Prosecutor and the Flemington Listed winner She’s So High.
