3 minute read

Exciting filly Nakeeta Jane became the fifth Group One winner for her noted sire So You Think when she won a thrilling Surround Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Nakeeta Jane (So You Think x Lustre Lady by Flying Spur) joined D'Argento, Inference, La Bella Diosa and Sopressa as the fifth G1 winner for the son of High Chaparral with her last stride win in the 1400m feature.

So You Think, a son of the late High Chaparral, is flying the flag high for the Sadler’s Wells sire line in Australia.

Coolmore’s 10-time G1 winner has been represented by 15 Group and stakes winners in his first four crops since he began his dual hemisphere stud career in 2013.

The Mark Newnham-trained Nakeeta Jane has won three of her first five starts including the G2 Light Fingers Stakes as well as a third in last spring’s G1 Flight Stakes, earning $495,050 in prize-money after she was retained to race by her breeders the Towell family of GT Park north of Sydney.

Her dam Lustre Lady has produced five winners from five foals to race over distances from 1200m to 1900m with Nakeeta Jane the only one of her foals not to be offered for sale.

Lustre Lady is out of the winning mare Lucky Lady (Nashwan) and is a half-sister to Legaya (Shirley Heights), the dam of Listed winner Legal Approach (Zafonic) while her third and fourth dams Jet Ski Lady (Vaguely Noble) and Bemissed (Nijinsky) were both both G1 winners.

Lustre Lady has a colt foal by Pierro and was covered again by So You Think last spring.

It was quite a day for Coolmore sires with progeny by Fastnet Rock, Pierro and Choisir wining Group and Listed races in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

FASTNET ROCK: A Group double at Randwick for the champion sire from his classy filly Anaheed and honest sprinter Dreamforce.

Anaheed (Fastnet Rock x Rostova by Testa Rossa) lived up to her pedigree with her second win in three starts in the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes for her owner-breeder Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.

She has a Golden Slipper pedigree as her dam Rostova was a G1 winner and is also the dam of two other winners including the stakes placed Farooq (Frankel).

Tim Stakemire purchased Rostova for the Sheikh for $850,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2015 when she was in foal to Frankel, a mating that produced Farooq.

Anaheed has a yearling half-brother by Medaglia D'Oro entered for the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April.

Foaled and raised at Coolmore Australia, Anaheed has won nearly $200,000 from her three starts and is the 143rd stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock.

The tough 6YO gelding Dreamforce (Fastnet Rock x Eskimo Queen by Shinko King) completed the Randwick double for Fastnet Rock when he won the G3 Liverpool City Cup.

The John Thompson trained gelding has won 10 of his 23 starts earning over $670,000 prizemoney.

Dreamforce’s dam Eskimo Queen was a dual G1 winner of the Queensland Oaks and Coolmore Classic.

The G3 winner Our King Sway (Shinko King) and Krispin Klear (Kreisler) a stakes winer of 13 races, are also in the Dreamforce family.

A sister to Dreamforce will be offered at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

PIERRO: His promising 3YO Regal Power featured among a big day for leading Perth owners and breeders Bob and Sandra Peters as their powerful stable won all the stakes races on the Ascot program.

Regal Power (Pierro x Broadway Belle by Redoute's Choice) broke through for his first black type win for the Grant and Alana Williams stable, taking his record to two wins and four placings from 10 starts for prizemoney of more than $117,000.

Regal Power is the 15th stakes winner by Pierro and the third winner from the stakes-winner Broadway Belle, making him a full brother to the Peters owned and bred G2 WA Derby winner Action.

He is also a brother-in-blood to other Peters homebreds Arcadia Queen, winner of the G1 Kingston Town Classic, and G3 winer Arcadia Prince.

Broadway Belle has a yearling colt by Vancouver, a weanling filly by American Pharoah and is back in foal to Pierro.

CHOISIR: The popular sire moved closer to a century of stakes winners when his 2YO filly Lady Naturaliste won the Listed Cindarella Stakes at Morphettville.

The Matt Cumani-trained Lady Naturaliste ( Choisir x Calcatta by Tale of the Cat) is the 94th winner by the veteran sire.

Ian Smith’s NSW nursery Edinburgh Park sold Lady Naturaliste for $150,000 as an Easter yearling to a syndicate that included Boomer Bloodstock and Cumani Racing.

She is the first winner from the stakes-winning Calcatta, a mare from the family of G2 winners Never Quit and Super Sequel.

Calcatta is the dam of a colt by Pride Of Dubai sold by Edinburgh Park for $170,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale in January. She is currently in foal to Zoustar.

Mockery

VERRAZANNO: This former Coolmore shuttler from America sired his first Australian winner and first stakes-winner in the southern hemisphere when his 2YO filly Mockery won the Listed Festival of Racing Stakes at Flemington.

The John McArdle-trained Mockery (Verrazano x Madoni by Lonhro) was bred when Verrazano, a G1-winning son of More Than Ready, stood for one season at Coolmore Australia in 2015 when he covered 71 mares.

Mockery is the first foal from Madoni, a half-sister to the dam of G3 winner She’s So High (I Am Invincible) and G3 placed Bangs (Snippetson).

Her second dam Announce (Military Plume) is the dam of the Listed winner Listen Here (Elusive Quality), the dam of G1 winner and sire Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and G2 winner and sire Deep Field (Northern Meteor).

Madoni has yearling colt and weanling filly by Fighting Sun.

Mark Newnham-trained filly Nakeeta Jane is building an imposing record, now with three wins (and two placings) from five starts, highlighted by this Group 1 victory. Stepping out after her impressive first-up win in the Light Fingers Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) here on February 16, she settled in ninth place, improved (deep) coming to the home turn, commenced a strong run on straightening before coming with a fast bid to grab victory at the post. Fundamentalist went to the front, beat off challengers and got a break at the 300m, only to be caught on the post for (half-head) second, her fifth placing from her last six starts. El Dorado Dreaming settled in seventh place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), got a split at the 300m and then battled gamely for a close-up third. Mizzy raced outside the leader (Fundamentalist) to the home turn and that held on really well for a close fourth. The favourite Pohutukawa was tenth on the rails, got a split nearing the 200m and then battled on well without being fully clear over the latter stages for (1.7 lengths) fifth.
