Better Than Ready Leads Prizemoney Table

3 minute read

Lyndhurst Stud’s sire sensation Better Than Ready returned to the top of the Leading First Season Sire table by earnings when his classy juvenile The Odyssey cruised to victory in Saturday's $500,000 Aquis 2YO Jewel at the Gold Coast.

The success of progeny from the first crop of Better Than Ready has been sensational with no fewer than 13 individual winners, nine more than his nearest freshman rivals.

The Odyssey has led the way, the stakes winning youngster boosting his earnings to over $550,000 with Saturday’s win, a great return on the $30,000 he cost as a Gold Coast yearling purchase.

"God bless him," buyer and winning trainer Kelly Schweida said. "He's only a two-year-old and he's won well over $500,000.

"He's a high class young horse and he's done a tremendous job for his group of lady owners."

The Odyssey (Better Than Ready x Jessica’s Hope) has now won four of his seven starts with two placings.

Another youngster by Better Than Ready, Ready to Roam ran third in the 2YO Jewel on Saturday, earnings that helped propel the outstanding young stallion above Brazen Beau as the leading first season sire on earnings.

Better Than Ready’s 13 first crop winners have won 19 races earning $1,335,700 while Brazen Beau has had just two winners of three races for $1,046,355, the bulk coming from Accession’s win in the $2 million Millenium at Warwick Farm last month.

Rubick has moved to second by wins and winners with five of his youngsters having won seven races.

Better Than Ready is the most represented sire with 49 lots at this week's Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

The sale commences Monday and continues on Tuesday. It has produced many high class gallopers in recent years including Spirit Of Boom, I'm A Rippa, Winning Rupert, Boomsara and Buffering.

Progeny by Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom continue to excel after his blazing start at stud last season. He has 30 lots catalogued for this week’s sale.

Last year's Gold Coast March Yearling Sale has produced more 2YO winners than any other sale in Australia this season apart from the Gold Coast Yearling Sale last January.
