Sidestep Fee Increase For 2019

3 minute read

Queensland stud farm Telemon Thoroughbreds has been quick to announce a revised service fee for young sire Sidestep following the Golden Slipper Stakes win by his first crop daughter Kiamichi at Rosehill last weekend.

Sidestep will remain at Telemon Thoroughbreds for the 2019 breeding season under an existing two-year lease arrangement with Darley.

Hios fee for the 2019 season has been set at $22,000 including GST, a not unexpected increase on his 2018 fee of $7700.

Sidestep, a son of Exceed And Excel, was the champion 2YO colt his year and currently tops both the First Season Sires and 2YO Sires prizemoney tables following Kiamichi's Golden Slipper victory.

Telemon general manager Joe Heather said Darley was committed to keeping Sidestep available to Queensland breeders.

“We’ve been absolutely inundated with support for Sidestep since last Saturday and we want to be able to give our clients certainty regarding their mating plans for 2019," Heather said.

"The reaction has been great. It is wonderful to see the success of the horse and what he has done in such a short period of time.

"We are really excited about the season ahead and the quality of mares he will attract."

Darley Stallions Head of Sales Alastair Pulford said it was pleasing to have Sidestep positioned to work with a Queensland mare population renowned for producing great two-year-old results.

“We’ve seen what other sires have been able to do in Queensland and we now have Sidestep exceptionally well-positioned for the long term.”

Telemon owner Dan Fletcher said Sidestep's service fee increase was not unreasonable for a sire producing a Golden Slipper in his first crop.

“We felt it was important to strike a middle ground between the horse’s newfound standing whilst recognising the need to keep him at an attainable level following a relatively tough period for local breeders," Fletcher said.

“To be able to offer this horse at a fee where he remains exceptional value is a huge result for Queensland.

“Sidestep's first Queensland foals are on the way and he’ll attract his best and biggest book of mares in 2019. We can’t wait to get to work.”
