3 minute read

A court order has been placed on shuttle sire Cable Bay preventing him from travelling to Australia for his spring season at Woodside Park in Victoria.

Prominent UK breeders Highclere Stud obtained an injunction from the High Court to stop Cable Bay from leaving quarantine in the UK only hours before he was due to be flown to Australia due to an undisclosed injury

A statement from Highclere Stud's John Warren explained the situation.

"As large beneficiaries in terms of ownership of Cable Bay in the southern hemisphere, it is unfortunate that due to injury in quarantine the vets have advised that the horse should not be transported at this stage," Warren said.

The court order is valid for one month with Cable Bay to remain in his current location for at least another 10 days pending judgment on August 8 on whether the sire's Australian shareholders can challenge the claim.

Woodside Park Stud has declined to comment on the matter due to the pending court judgement.

Cable Bay has shuttled to Woodside Park for the last two Australian seasons and has served more than 200 mares.

His first crop northern hemisphere 2YOs are racing this season and include 13 individual winners to date.

A flight is available to bring Cable Bay to Australia on August 17 if the injunction is lifted.
