The just completed 2018/19 season saw Blackfriars win his ninth successive Western Australian sires' premiership to equal the record of another former Scenic Lodge resident Scenic who won nine consecutive titles between 2002 and 2010.

Together Scenic and Blackfriars, a son of Danehill who died in 2017, have claimed 18 successive premierships, a record for a stud in Australia.

Scenic Lodge was established by David Smith in 1996 as Durham Lodge. The stud underwent a name change to Scenic Lodge to mark the achievements of the foundation sire that put the stud on the map.

Blackfriars finished 2018-19 with 96 individual winners of 151 races in 2018/19 with his progeny earning $4,992,102 in prizemoney and bonuses.

The WA sires' premiership was a complete triumph for Scenic Lodge as other resident stallions Universal Ruler ($3.16 million) and Snippetson ($3.14 milion) finished second and third behind Blackfriars.

Blackfriars, winner of the 1999 Victoria Derby, was put down in December 2017 after he shattered a shoulder after undergoing colic surgery.
