Libertini Looks A Class Above

3 minute read

I Am Invincible filly Libertini laid down a marker as a potential Group One winner with her dominant victory in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, setting the platform for another big season by her record-breaking sire.

There was talk of Libertini being in line for an Everest berth after she smashed the 1200m class record with an effortless performance at just her fourth race start.

Bred by Gerry Harvey and raced by him with his long-time mate John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud, Libertini (I Am Invincible x Aloha by Encosta De Lago) won twice from three outings last season for her excited trainer Anthony Cummings.

Equally excited will be Yarraman Park Stud after its flagship sire I Am Invincible set new records for seasonal stakes-winners and winners in 2018/19.

I Am Invincible sired 184 winners of 301 races with earnings of $17.7 million, finishing second to Snitzel by earnings but way out in front for stakes-winners and winners.

His 184 winners set an Australian record and his 28 stakes-winners is also a record surpassing the previous best of 26 shared by Snitzel and Danehill.

I Am Invincible was the champion 2YO sire by winners (27), stakes-winners (8) and earnings ($3.6 million).

After being champion first season sire in 2013/14 I Am Invincible has risen thro9ugh the ranks to command the highest advertised fee ($247,500) of any stallion at stud this spring.

In 2016/17 I Am Invincible sired145 winners (12 stakes-winners) and in 2017/18 he was second on the Australian General Sires with 158 winners (19 stakes-winners) of $15.9 million.

Libertini is the third foal from Aloha, who won eight races including the G1 Coolmore Classic.

Also the dam of the winners My Prince Charming (More Than Ready) and Hualalai (Street Cry), Aloha is a daughter of the stakes winner Tennessee Midnight (Danehill), a half-sister to the dual G1 winner Malaguerra (Magnus).

Aloha has a 2YO filly by Sebring and a yearling filly by I Am Invincible. Her Silver Shadow win rewarded Gerry Harvey with a nomination to new Darley shuttle stallion Harry Angel.

The Anthony Cummings stable celebrated a stakes double at Randwick when the Zoustar mare Mizzy won her first start as a 4YO in the G3 Toy Show Quality.

Mizzy was a deserving winner following a string of unlucky performances in black type races last season including the G1 Surround Stakes at Randwick.

Bred by Victoria's Dorrington Farm, Mizzy was bought from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2017 Easter Yearling Sale for $200,000 by Cummings, no doubt attracted to her as he trained her dam Missy Cummings (Magnus).

She is the first foal out of Missy Cummings, a Listed winner from the stakes winner Lady Knockout (Serheed) who produced four winners.

Lady Knockout is also a sister to the Listed winners Expunge (Gilded Time) and Young Lionel (Blackfriars) from the G2 winner Prime Again (Marooned).

Missy Cummings has a 3YO filly by Pierro and a yearling colt by Capitalist.

Highly talented filly Libertini scored a most impressive first-up victory, taking her record to three wins and a second from four starts. She was smartly away and travelled particularly well in third place before cruising to the front at the 200m. She then went to win effortlessly in a brilliant victory. Godolphin-raced filly Flit staged a nice effort in running second, resuming here at her fourth start. She settled in last place in the seven-horse field, got along the inner on straightening and kept running on well to gain second in a photo from Let It Pour who had been fourth to the home turn before battling on in good style for third in another promising effort. Villami raced outside the leader (Pretty Brazen), went to the front on turning for home and then held on quite well for (2.6 lengths) fourth.
