Keeneland's September Yearling Sale Book 2 concluded with a significant jump in average and median prices.

The two-day Book 2 sale saw 445 yearlings sell for a total of $US97,585,000 ($A142 million) at an average of $219,292 ($318,800) and a median of $185,000 ($269,000).

Last year's Book 2 saw 548 yearlings sold for an aggregate of $US87,103,700 ($A126 million), an average of $158,948 ($231,000) and a median of 130,000 (189,000).

Keeneland's Director of Sales Operations Geoffrey Russell said the decision to run with a smaller catalogue had worked well.

"We tried to cut down the numbers to increase the quality of the sale and I think that the numbers reflect that very well," Russel said.

"The huge rise in the median shows we were successful."

Book 2 was topped by a $1 million bid by bloodstock agent Marette Farrell on behalf of Speedway Stable for a Candy Ride colt from triple G2 winner Always Princess (Leroidesanimaux).

Bob Baffert will train the colt.

Another eight lots by Coolmore Australia's shuttler American Pharoah were sold in Bok 2, taking his numbers to 42 for the week at a total of $US22.4 million ($A32.5 million).

Australian buyers made an aperance with Craig Rounsefell's Boomer Bloodstock securing fillies by Speightstown and Street Sense out of Book 2 in partnership with Mathiesen Racing.
