Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Thursday’s meeting at Newcastle.

Static Lift (Race 3) is a clear second pick in the market at $3.40 having shortened the best part of a point early. He appreciated the drop to the provincials last start when beaten narrowly on the Beaumont track and should be hard fit now.

Mega Mall (Race 5) is in to an odds on quote at $1.90 having firmed 35 cents this morning. She fought hard to win over this distance on the Beaumont track last start and is a lightly-raced filly with some upside.

Tamarack (Race 8) is now a hot favourite at $2.25 having almost halved his opening quote on the back of heavy support. The Joe Pride-trained gelding hit the line well for second on debut and should be improved with experience and the step up in trip.

Eusebio (Race 8) steps up to city company but was super impressive in winning his maiden at the provincials first up. The punters are backing him to continue to progress, backing him in 70 cents as a clear cut favourite at $2.60.
