Messara Runner To Have Bragging Rights At Wellington

3 minute read

Braggart will look to continue his good recent form when he steps out in the Power Of Destiny At Macquarie Open Handicap (1400m) at Wellington today.

The Paul Messara-trained runner won just three starts back which he followed up with a solid fifth at Canterbury before running second at Mudgee last start, only 0.8L away.

Only lightly raced as a six-year-old, Braggart’s recent form rates well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings and despite not having won at the trip, has placed on all three occasions over 1400m.

Dale Spriggs goes on board for the first time and having raced in tougher company than this of late, Braggart should prove hard to hold out.

From barrier 5, the son of Hussonet will settle up on the speed and looks very hard to go past against these.

Fox Solid who resumed in good order with a win last start looms as the main danger, having won three of his four races here at his home course.

His record at the trip raises some concerns however, unplaced from 3 runs but has won between 1100m-1700m.

Has not drawn the best but top country jockey Greg Ryan goes on board and expect him to be somewhere in the mix.

Clever Hans who finished fifth in the same race at Braggart last start has been solid enough in recent times but has failed to turn that form into wins.

The seven-year-old gelding gets a much needed 4kg claim for apprentice jockey Taylah Gray but still has a bit to find in order to be wining this.

The consistent Miss Ta Ta also rates a mention on the back of a last start win when resuming at Dubbo.

Showed good ability last campaign and will have no weight on her back, getting 2kg off her already light weight of 54kg.

Has won her only time at the course and despite looking for further will be competitive over the 1400m, a similar trip to what she won over last start.

These look the main chances already there appear to be a couple of each way chances which includes Toranaga who has been around the mark in recent times and Ten To Zero who can make his way into the placings.
