Sydney Specials: Randwick - 15th February 2020

3 minute read

A rain soaked Randwick faces punters on Saturday with a number of our stars kicking off their Autumn campaigns.

I won't sugar coat it, Saturday is tough and for the most part it's probably best to just watch and learn.

Out of the four main feature races, 29/43 horses are first up, throw in a heavy track and suddenly it becomes very difficult.

Sure you can do your trial form and yes they have wet track form to guide you, but if horses aren't fit, it really doesn't matter.

It's always dangerous betting at this time of year with Grand Finals close to two months away.

If it was a dry track I would be declaring Dreamforce tomorrow, just not as confident with the expected heavy track.

One horse I am happy to back first up is the Matthew Smith trained Attorney.

Unbeaten in two starts in Australia, the French import took big steps in a short period and appears well ahead of the handicapper.

His two trials leading into this have been very good and the mile looks an ideal starting point for him.

No doubt they have him aimed at loftier targets, but to get there he needs to be winning, unlike some of the horses resuming in the feature races.

In a race with good speed anticipated, he looks to get a lovely suck run from the inside draw and already rates clear on his performances last time in.

I remain confident he can run a new peak on Saturday and that being the case, he should prove very hard to beat.

In the fourth event, the Team Snowden trained Dame Giselle kicks off her Golden Slipper preparation.

Ultra impressive taking out the Golden Gift prior to a break, Dame Giselle is the fifth highest rated 2YO this season (109), Cellsabeel being the only filly rated ahead of her (111+)

That figure leaves her very well placed on Saturday and if able to perform anywhere near that mark, her rivals have a big job ahead of them.

Admittedly she is an unknown on the heavy going, however that is factored into your price, if it was a good track tomorrow, she would be marked deep odds-on.
