Inter Dominion - Heat 4 (night two)

The warning bells sounded for the King Of Swing connections when 'stablemate' Expensive Ego  made his first look at Bathurst a winning one in the opening heat on the second night of this TAB Inter Dominion Championship.

Posted wide early, even reinsman Luke McCarthy later admitted he was doing it a little tougher than he had hoped for.

Expensive Ego did the rest and an enthusiastic McCarthy suggested the four-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven stallion would be even better when he got back to Menangle for the 3000m final on Saturday week.

Expensive Ego smashed the track record, rating 1:50.8 for the mile in defeating Triple Eight (Greg Sugars), with early leader The Black Prince (Robbie Morris) a fighting third.

"He's just so strong, this horse, we cannot wait to get him over the longer journey," said McCarthy.

"It takes a good stayer to run a good mile, you see a lot of that in America.

"But he was super tonight, this was his first look at this track and he had a good look around, then he knuckled down and did the job."

Triple Eight settled behind the leader and ran on well, while The Black Prince and ran on well for third, while Morris was happy with The Black Prince who only handed up to the favourite, Expensive Ego, and fought on doggedly to get some much-needed points heading into round three at Newcastle.

"He tried hard and I was happy with the run," said Morris.

Trainer Belinda McCarthy said Expensive Ego had pulled up a treat after scoring in last Saturday night's first round.

"I still get nervous; we had a tough draw tonight and all I can hope for now is that he pulls up as well as he did last weekend," she said.
