Sheng Li Superstar lived right up to his name with an effortless win Sunday’s Class 2 Handicap over 1350 metres on the all weather at Taipa to give him three wins from his four starts in Macau.
Prepared by Tony Fung and ridden by Luis Corrales, Sheng Li Superstar was fired out of the gates to lead and then set up a high rolling tempo up front, before powering away from his opponents at the two hundred to win by six and a half lengths eased down.
A son of the unbeaten Harbour Watch, Sheng Li Superstar is no doubt something very special judging on the ease of Sundays victory as he stopped the clock at 1.20.9 just .01 outside of the class record that he could have no doubt shattered easily.
Sheng Li Superstar originally commenced his racing career under Henry Dwyer at Caulfield, racing as Westerly Wind for the Qatar Bloodstock Group where he only raced four times for an easy six lengths win at Geelong over 1300 metres with two other placed efforts.
His breeding suggests that his talents may not just be limited to the all weather but it’s evident that he is going straight to the top of the class on that surface.
Rising 11 year year old My Dream struck a blow for the aged with a solid win in the Class 4 over 1510 metres making it three wins straight on the all weather for the son of Lord Of Warriors.
Prepared by Sio Cheong and ridden on Sunday by seven pound claimer Eric Cheung, My Dream chalked up win number 16 in Macau with a further 23 placings, bring his stakes to over $3 million HKD.
The win was the first leg of a double for the duo with Sio Cheong taking out the fourth race with his stable stalwart River Bobo also another old timer that is racing with the zest of a juvenile.
River Bobo was at one time the highest rated sand galloper in Macau reaching a peak of 123 before succumbing to some breathing problems.
With Peter Ho having his very first ride on the gelding on Sunday, he was stepping out on a mark of 105.
River Bobo has been one of owner King Ho’s star gallopers with Sunday’s victory taking him to 14 wins and 10 placings and nudging the $4.5 million mark in prize money.
With an intriguing battle ensuing for the Trainer’s Championships four of the top five contenders enjoyed success on Sunday’s ten race card.
Danny Wong stole the show with a winning treble with Éclair Sunshine on the sand (Class 2 & 3 ), Autumn Cloud (Class 3 & 4) and Ying’s Fans (0 to 55 Special Conditions) both on the turf.
Last season’s Champion trainer Tony Fung led in a double with Tremendous Wins (Class 4 & 5 on the sand) and Sheng Li Superstar.
A double also went Sio Cheong with My Dream and River Bobo; with Stanley Chin clinging onto the equal top spot alongside Sio Cheong with a double with Roaring Fans in the Class 4 and a massive win in the Class 6 with Chin’s Delight.
After Sunday’s racing the Trainer’s Table reads Stanley Chin and Sio Cheong on top with 28 wins, two victories ahead of Alan Tam and Tony Fung on 26 with Danny Wong next on 24.
Luis Corrales took riding honors with a treble on the day.
As well as Sheng Li Superstar Corrales was seen to advantage on Wealthy East Class 3 & 4, and Ying’s Fans in the last. Peter Ho and Eric Cheung both kicked home a double on the day.
